Lead Environment Artist

Turtle Rock Studios is looking for a Lead Environment Artist to come in and lead and mentor a team of talented artists to continue to push the bar on creating stunning and beautiful environments for our games! We are looking for someone who can work and communicate well across multiple disciplines to help shape and define the vision for our environments moving forward. This includes a broad range of environments that include architecture, foliage and trees, and unique points of interest needed to define the visual direction of the location.

Responsibilities

• Guide artists in creating beautiful 3D environments, maintaining quality bar and visual standards throughout the environments
• Work with Art Direction and Concept team to develop a vision for our various environments, as well as doing layouts for maps and asset creation
• Work with the Level Design team to maintain gameplay standards and build performant layouts and maps
• Provide 1 on 1 reviews, giving personal and artistic feedback, mentor other artists and push them to continue to level up their skills

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in professional game development in a similar capacity.
• Have shipped games in Unreal as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
• High proficiency level with Maya and Unreal Engine.
• Ability to model and texture highly creative environment art, including natural environments and hard surface architecture.
• Experience with level/map layouts
• Ability to quickly understand where detail is needed and where it is not
• Strong collaborative skills with multiple groups in game development (design, engineering, production)
• Excellent attention to detail regarding shape, scale, and proportion

Preferences

• Proficiency in 3DS Max, ZBrush/Blender, Substance Designer/Painter, and Photoshop
