Lead Environment Artist [Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora]

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™ is a first-person, action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft studio in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. Built using the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine, and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open-world experience.
As a Lead Environment (Level) Artist here at Massive, you'll mentor, manage, and support a team of specialized Environment Artists. You would get the chance to use your artistic eye, collaborating directly with our Art Director to provide feedback to your team, ultimately helping to create gameplay spaces that not only play well but look visually stunning too.
Utilizing the power of our in-house game engine - Snowdrop, you and your team will also collaborate with fellow Artists, Tech Art, and Level Designers to create a truly unique AAA game world.

What you'll do
- Leading and developing high-quality Environment Art for a AAA game;
- Ensuring a productive internal workflow and beneficial relationships with other departments, external partners, and CoDev studios;
- Prioritizing and managing the team’s day-to-day tasks to ensure that deliverables are completed on time and to specification, through stand-ups, meetings, 1on1s, and syncs to communicate the vision and needs with other teams and stakeholders;
- Reading, revising, and validating the teams work, mentoring to improve the overall quality;
- Evaluating task duration and distributing challenges across your team;
- Identify recruitment needs and participate in the recruitment & onboarding process;
- Define team member development and career path opportunities with team members and mentor them to achieve goals.
Qualifications
What you'll bring
You push what environment art can mean to a game through creative initiatives. You've shipped one or more major/AAA Game projects in a leadership position, and you're ready to utilize your newfound knowledge and experience, applying it to our unique challenge within the Avatar IP. As a Lead you're also fond of helping your team, removing obstacles, helping to plan and develop their skills with constructive feedback. You have a passion for interactive storytelling and an excellent understanding of the English language (our company language).
Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:
- A relevant portfolio of artwork (must include Level/Environment Art);
- Proven experience working as a Lead in the games industry, with at least one AAA title credited in a Lead position;
- Experience through several end-to-end game development cycles;
- Deep understanding of art fundamentals and design (including an understanding of composition, color theory, and lighting);
- Great technical knowledge of 3D packages, texturing packages, and visual scripting game engines (like Unity/Unreal);
- Solid understanding of the workflows required to create an asset from the Blockout stage to final quality, and optimization for real-time rendering.
