The ideal candidate will be able to lead a small team of engine developers to design and implement new features into the Unreal Engine, as well as respond to feature requests from Art & Design with a focus on performance and maintainability within the scope of a multiplatform AAA game experience. We are seeking someone who is ready to dive into new problems, figure out novel solutions to existing problems across PC & Console. We are all enthusiastic about helping to shape a culture of collaboration and trust while creating best-in-class games.The salary range for this position is $169,000 – $262,000. This range represents the salary for the position commensurate with experience, knowledge, and demonstrated success in the field.WHO YOU ARE:You are an effective communicator and collaborator across multiple disciplines.You possess strong engineering fundamentals and C++ knowledge.You have experience leading and managing engineering teams through all portions of development cycles.You are able to strike an appropriate balance between up-front design and iterative development for the task at hand.You are results oriented.WHAT YOU WILL DO:Manage a group of game software engineers from various specialties including Tools, Rendering/Graphics, Physics, Audio, etc and identify engineering project’s, technical limitations, scope, and scheduling.Provide team members with ongoing and meaningful feedback on performance and development -- ensuring positive acknowledgment of all achievements, both big and small.Manage the development of features from technical feasibility, scalability, performance point of view at an expert level.Manage detailed technical reports on state of the architecture as well as drive knowledge sharing sessions that help the team understand and work with the tech more efficiently.Manage and advise other engineers on complex matters and provides solution for up leveling their craft.Work with all disciplines including design, art, audio, and production to clearly define requirements and manage team operations.Manage and review technical architecture for efficiency, scale, maintenance and functionality based on immediate and future needs of the game.Evangelizes and manages the technical vision and brings others on board through collaboration.Exhibits expertise using wide-ranging technologies, using in-depth professional knowledge, acumen, concepts and company objectives to manage and resolve high-impact engineering challenges company wide.Occasionally will write and implements clear, maintainable, portable code in C++ or equivalent while managing a team of engineers.Responsible for managing the evaluation and integration of middleware's, 3rd party software and decisions around keeping the engine current.Identify, recruit, interview, and hire software engineers to help teams scale effective.Maintain technical excellence via key metrics like performance, memory and stability across all platforms.QUALIFICATIONS:Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices and areas of specialization within engine development.Strong methodology and problem-solving ability.Ability to take requests from stakeholders, clarify the requirements, formulate a plan, present that plan to the stakeholder, and then rally engineers on their team to execute.Ability to manage engineering best practices in an area of specialization for all engine related disciplinesStrong ability to build productive internal/external working relationships, both providing and accepting information, feedback, advice, debate, and technical guidance withing engineering.Able to partner with product management and technical leaders to properly track and document engineering efforts in JIRA.Strong ability to author code in the programming languages; C++ & Blueprint.Strong understanding of linear algebra.Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Requires a minimum of 7 years of related or equivalent work experience.Requires a minimum of 3 or more years of management experience within AAA Games preferably focused on engine specialtiesExperience in software development on multiple modern consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC etc.).PREFERRED SKILLS:Demonstrated hands on experience working in AAA game engines on graphics, physics, tools, or performance related features.Experience working within Unreal Engine and especially Unreal Engine 5.Experience working with cross-discipline teams within AAA Games.OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU:A people-centric culture founded on respect, trust, approachability, and accountability.A stable home that values your potential, deeply cares about your work-life balance, and is committed to investing in your craft and long-term career.Competitive benefits package, including a sign-on bonus; annual stock option grants; health coverage (medical, dental, vision) paid at 100% for the employee and subsidized by the Company for dependents; Flexible Spending Account eligibility; life, accidental death, and disability insurance coverage; annual 401K contribution by the Company; Employee Assistance Program; and extensive paid time off plus holiday closures.About ProbablyMonsters™ProbablyMonsters is an independent AAA video game company that aims to change the way games are made and inspire a better industry for all.
