Lead Designer

Oxide Games is looking for a Lead Designer to join our team, working on a new IP AAA game with a first party publisher. The candidate will work closely alongside/under the Design Director, designing player experiences, managing the day-to-day workings of the project, and helping to manage the design team assigned to the project. The ideal candidate has a previous experience as a sub lead or lead designer in the videogame industry, with prior experience in strategy games.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the design director, design team, and other department leaders to create and maintain engaging and innovative experiences for the target audience
- Manage and mentor other designers on the project
- Work with production to manage designer schedules and prioritize project goals
- Evaluate the game and collaborate with the team to provide feedback and directives for future iteration and work
- Communicate goals and priorities with the publisher
- Create and maintain design documentation, including feature specification and implementation guidelines
- Maintain and establish standards for the design team over the course of the project
Qualifications:
- 5+ years game experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with both conceptual and practical aspect of game design
- Strong creative skills and ability to analyze with critical judgment
- Ability to self-critique, open to constructive criticism, and able to listen and give feedbacks to others
- Able to work well with all development disciplines
- A positive, solution-oriented attitude, and a desire to be a team player
- Able to work creatively in a demanding technical environment
- The ability to learn and master new tools and techniques
- Strong attention to detail
As a plus:
- Technical background in programming or scripting in C++, XML, or C#
- Strong skills in Excel and VBA scripting
- Physical board game prototyping experience
- Experience managing a team in an AAA environment
- Experience in strategy or simulation games
- Probability, statistics, or operations research knowledge and experience
