THE OPPORTUNITY
SALARY RANGE: $86,000 - $137,000, pay may vary by location.
The Lead Content Designer is responsible for designing compelling game content and experiences, and working with the Lord of the Rings Online team in the Content Design team at Standing Stone Games reporting to the Producer, this position will be responsible for:
- Leading the Content Design team, setting vision and strategy
- Support designers’ growth with coaching and mentoring
- Provide opportunities for knowledge-sharing, skill-building, and leadership development
- Oversee content design quality on Lord of the Rings Online
- Focus our design around thrilling and delighting players
- Create and maintain an inclusive, collaborative, and healthy culture
- Design and implement high quality, compelling content for a massively multiplayer game
- Drive design through all development phases, from concept to live operations
- Once live, design responses to performance indicators and customer feedback
- Share learnings and experiences from our updates to improve future ones
- Utilize your experience to challenge concepts and articulate execution concerns, while balancing team health
- Refine processes and improve collaboration between Design and other departments
- Pitch and develop quest packs, instances, and systems for future updates
- Translate ideas into full-fledged plans
- Advise project leadership and discuss key product and design decisions
- Learn proprietary tools quickly and work within a complex asset development pipeline
What craft expertise you’ll have:
- Tools/Technology
- Required:
- Strong general computer skills (very comfortable in Microsoft Office, JIRA, etc.)
- Experience with version control software, such as Perforce
- Experience with 3D game tools, such as Unity, Unreal, or Maya
- Desired: Knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as Python, Perl, C# or similar languages

- Leadership and/or management experience
- A mature, professional attitude and work ethic; you need to be able to champion your ideas, yet accept and value the ideas of others
- Experience evaluating and/or designing solo and/or group content
- Experience designing for, monitoring, and evolving a live service game
- Extensive familiarity with MMO design principles
- Strong understanding of how to craft a good story in a game
- Desired:
- Experience with The Lord of the Rings Online
- Familiarity with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien
