Lead Character Artist

Turtle Rock Studios is an award-winning independent game developer best known for its work on AAA franchises like Left 4 Dead, Evolve, and Counter-Strike. We are a diverse team of inspired content creators, artists and engineers who share a passion for making fun, innovative games that gamers love to play.

We are seeking a talented Lead Character Artist to join our team and help make great games. The job will require working closely with the Art Director to help guide the team and create visually stunning game characters and creatures. We are looking for someone who can thrive in a collaborative environment where the whole team works together for the benefit of all aspects of the game.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Art Director and Character team to define benchmarks and develop high quality assets
• Collaborate with character artists on character development and take those assets all the way to completion
• Communicate effectively across all departments and with the team to fulfill the visual goals of game assets
• Mentor and train other artists on the team
• Oversee and maintain high visual quality for all character models
• Work with the Character and Tech team to develop and improve the pipeline

Requirements

Requirements

• Stunning portfolio that demonstrates expertise in modeling and texturing, including hard surface and organic assets
• Strong texture skills and experience with Substance Painter
• Expert knowledge of Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop
• An understanding of all current generation production workflows as they pertain to character art production
• Strong understanding of physically based shaders and rendering
• An understanding of the human form/anatomy and structure/silhouette in respect of modeling
• Ability to create and manipulating texture maps and excellent understanding of the value of UV space
• Experience in a Lead or mentorship role
• 7+ years games industry experience

Preferences

• Strong traditional art foundations: including but not limited to figure drawing, concept art and illustration
• A passion for games
• Shipped one or more major titles on multiple Current New Gen/PC platforms as a Lead Character Artist
• Familiarity with source control and asset tracking tools such as Perforce and JIRA a plus
