For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and mo-cap studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We are seeking an experienced Lead Character Artist with strong leadership skills to join and guide our talented character art team in the development of a thematically dark sci-fi shooter project.
Your role is to manage, direct and deliver character art direction for the project. Your focus is to lead a team of Character Artists to deliver high-quality character models in line with your direction.
This role is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment.
We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and encourage working from our Oxford headquarters. However, we understand that flexibility matters, so we’re open to discussing hybrid options based on individual needs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of 3D artists using best practice people management techniques.
- Oversee team performance and development through regular feedback and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with the art director to review and refine character designs.
- Work with other art leads on character art direction when needed.
- Partner with Head of Art, Designers, Programmers, and Producers to align creative vision with production constraints.
- Produce high-quality character models that adhere to the project’s art direction.
- Ensure the quality of in-game assets, making necessary adjustments to meet technical and artistic standards.
- Act as a mentor and role model, fostering a creative and enthusiastic team environment.
Requirements
- Experienced in managing small teams, including recruitment and team collaboration.
- Expert understanding of anatomy, proportions, and character modeling.
- Proven expertise in creating and designing creature art.
- Strong knowledge of the video game development process and production pipelines.
- Skilled in translating concept and reference artwork into high-quality 3D character models.
- Proficient in 3D software such as Substance, Maya, Blender, and Zbrush.
- Deep expertise in the PBR material pipeline and project tools like game engines, JIRA, Confluence, Miro.
- Passionate about industry development and emerging technologies.
