Lead Build Automation Engineer (Video Game Industry)

IllFonic is looking for a Lead Automation Engineer to join the team. As a Lead Automation Engineer, you will lead the Build team on maintaining and expanding the build system, and developing automation tools. The role requires the management and delegation of writing build system tools, maintaining build services, developing automation tools like unit tests. Founded in 2007, IllFonic (IllFonic, LLC) is an independent video game development and publishing company with studios in Lakewood, Colorado and Tacoma, Washington. Our staff is composed of video game, music, and technology veterans redefining how games are made and marketed. Current and post titles / collaborations include Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, Arcadegeddon, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Friday the 13th: The Game, Dead Alliance, Star Citizen, Evolve, Armored Warfare, and Nexuiz.
Responsibilities
- Maintain existing systems with bug fixes and minor feature enhancements
- Monitor progress and output of build systems for issues
- Reviews technical documentation to increase knowledge of general systems and procedures
- Develop new features and systems based on a provided design in area of expertise
- Analyze existing processes for opportunities for increased automation and efficiency
- Developed general understanding of the full build system architecture
- Perform general maintenance on build nodes such as updating platform SDKs or taking Windows Updates
- Provide possible diagnoses on general failures in the build and test processes
- Ensure release artifacts are provided on schedule
- Update existing technical docs with changes to systems and procedures
- Design new functionality from scratch based on feedback and needs of the development team
- Develop new features and systems across all areas as needed by the team schedule
- Triage and fix critical priority issues
- Write technical docs on systems and procedures
- Mentor other programmers, helping them grow and develop
- Solve complex problems in new systems that no one else has experience with
- Research solutions to new challenges
- Perform semi-annual reviews of direct reports (if any)
- Provide accurate estimates and delegate tasks on projects
- Work with a variety of platforms we support on our games
- Take the initiative to identify, prioritize, call-out, and suggest solutions to problems both big and small
- Regularly playtest builds and provide professional feedback to the team on how to improve our games
- Share your thoughts about how to make the company a better place to work, improve the creative process, and help deliver better games
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years professional work experience with at least 3 shipped titles
- Write fluent Object-Oriented Python code
- Proficient in Groovy / Java as well Python
- Strong experience with source control
- Experienced Continuous Integration and Automated Test Development
- Comfortable working in both Windows and Linux environments
- Strict use of code names and complete confidentiality of project information for as long as its required
- Ability to work on multiple projects and develop reusable code
- Experience working in Jenkins including Jenkins Pipelines and Jenkins Configuration as Code
- Experience with Docker Containerization
- Experience using Perforce
