What We Do
Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is growing and is seeking an Engineering Manager, Distribution Services to join our team. This role will drive the technical vision for our digital distribution features, including platform-level offerings and online services for content installation and management. These content distribution features power our products, such as Fortnite, Unreal Engine, the Epic Games Store, and Epic Online Services. We’ll also be expanding our platform to support third-party integrations, and this opportunity is to help us build, extend, and operate these services at a global scale.
The Engineering Manager will support a team of experienced software engineers to create and maintain features that will delight our players and customers. A successful candidate will be able to work across multi-disciplinary teams to achieve their goals. In this role, you will
- Manage the team - understanding strengths and opportunities for growth, surfacing opportunities for development
- Lead the team in creating and operating online systems and solutions spanning backend services, web apps, SDKs, and redistributable tools
- Oversee technical designs and implementation of robust, highly scalable online solutions
- Define, deliver and continuously improve SLAs for online services environment - system health and monitoring, reporting and response, on-call resolution
- Partner with stakeholders to establish clear priorities and define expectations which translate to a scope of work that the team can effectively deliver on
- Ongoing, transparent communication with a focus on fostering trust with internal stakeholders and external partners
What we're looking for
- 7+ years software engineering industry experience developing online systems
- 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role
- Proven track record of guiding and developing teams to deliver online solutions at scale, leveraging industry best practices and standards
- Proven track record of guiding a team on operational excellence for online services, including system health, monitoring and troubleshooting, and incident response
- Understanding of networking, and best practices for architecture of distributed online systems
- Ability to manage a team roadmap and update stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a project
- Familiarity with design and operation of JVM-based services (Java, Kotlin, Scala)
- Experience with AWS, content delivery networks (Akamai, AWS CloudFront) is a plus
