Lead Animator
Animation is the bread and butter for bringing life and character to our games. This is the core of what we do. We’re looking for a Lead Animator with Unreal experience who can grow a great team and establish techniques to execute fantastic stylized animations that surprise people. You should be passionate about creating as well as leading.
At Squanch Games, we make stuff that people love; Games that we want to play ourselves. We make experiences that we would like to be totally immersed in and enjoy for hours at a time, as well as shorter, crazier experiences that would be great to play with a group of friends, or possibly with your grandmother who only comes over because she is afraid you'll starve to death if left to your own devices.
If you share these values, come join us!
Responsibilities:
- Experienced: You have lots of experience making games or interactive experiences in Unreal.
- Collaborative: You are the bridge between art, design, and programming, working together to implement great animation that makes the game more fun and full of life. You are responsible for translating the vision, the schedule & the goals to your team.
- A leader: You are the studio representative for any animation outsource needs as well as a mentor, pipeline owner & vision-holder for the animation team. You are constantly seeking to improve the quality of your team’s work, identifying and solving animation & cross-team issues/dependencies, delivering to a schedule you had a part in creating (with your production partner) and alerting upper management of risks to your team or the project.
- Self-Motivated: You are entrepreneurial. You look for ways you can make the game and your team better and don’t require constant supervision.
- Tech-friendly: You understand the entire Unreal animation pipeline. You are flexible and willing to dive into or work with other departments in blueprints when necessary, or write a quick Mel script to automate an annoyingly repetitive task. You understand the needs of the rigging pipeline and work closely with tech artists / riggers to get the most out of our character models.
Requirements:
- A shipped title that was built in Unreal.
- Be comfortable with technical pipelines: Rigging knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to help create and maintain animation documentation and explore new pipelines and development tools.

- Be flexible in your animation style: Capable of following a given style or technique.
- Bonus points if you've previously had the title of lead or senior animator!
Benefits:
- Salary range: $110,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience

- Short term & long term disability insurance coverage
- Paid parental leave
- 401k and FSA
