We are looking for a strong Lead 3D Character Artist to join PlayStation London Studio for an amazing opportunity and an exciting challenge. If you’ve got the skills, the desire to succeed and the creativity to work on our projects for next-gen, we want you to be a part of this exciting next step.
As the Lead Character Artist, you will have a critical role to play in shaping our future character creation and an awesome team of character artists. You will work closely with the Art Director and be responsible for executing the vision when realising the characters for our games .
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be the artistic leader for character art and take responsibility for delivering quality, distinction and style for our game characters.
- Raise the bar with h ands on delivery of quality character prototypes and benchmarks to a superb level of skill and ability.
- Maintain areas of the project ’ s style guide , which relate to the aesthetic and technical implementation of character assets.
- Lead, inspire, mentor and manage the Character Art team.
- Proactively contribute to drive the department and studio to the forefront of cutting-edge games development.
- Keep char a cter artwork on track (both in terms of style, quality, and delivery) for all studio productions.
- Work closely with the A nimation, T echnical A rt and T ools team to define the character tools and pipeline, including establishing technical standards , best practice s.
- Collaborate on the outsourcing needs of the team by authoring guidelines with benchmarks and approving quality control.
WHO YOU ARE/YOUR EXPERIENCE
- Experience developing digital characters in a variety of styles for AAA games with at least three published titles.
- Proven experience in defining and managing the t echnical and budgetary requirements for character art production , delivering on specification and to deadline .
- E xperience managing an internal and external art team.
- You display a mastery of anatomy, sculpting and texturing.
- Excellent knowledge of real-time modeling techniques (Shaders, PBR, Normal, Displacement, etc.)
- Expert knowledge of Maya, Photoshop, Z B rush and Substance Painter .
- Deep understanding of the game development cycle.
- You have a t echnical understanding of digital art pipeline issues.
- You are a team player and an excellent communicator .
- You can arbitrate sensitively between creative desires and production requirements.
