Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth! The Hearthstone team is looking for a versatile and inspiring Lead 3D Artist to mentor and guide a creative team in the creation of new and exciting content for our players. You’ll craft real-time 3D models from concept to implementation and work to maintain a consistent aesthetic quality across all 3D models in the game, create benchmark assets, workflows, and help the team to learn and grow. You have a strong grasp of composition, color, texture, and visual design, as well as the ability to translate the Art Director’s vision into actionable feedback for the team.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Art Director / Leads to drive and evangelize the ongoing artistic vision of Hearthstone as we development new expansions and new player experiences.
• Lead a team of 3D artists and be an active motivator in team discussions, critiques, and reviews to ensure timely completion of assets on style and at the desired quality bar.
• Create assets for use throughout the game including the playful game boards, card packs, varying pieces of the mission related content or the newest card backs all in the fun/whimsical style that is synonymous with Hearthstone.
• Coordinate with art leads, design, and production to help plan and accomplish the strategic goals of the 3D art team.
• Document and communicate workflow and best practices to support consistency across the art team. Where needed, provide visual benchmarks to support the visual targets of new content.
• Collaborate with Art Manager to improve the team’s abilities through mentorship of skills, process, and artistic techniques

Your Background

• Significant experience in game development as a lead or senior artist specializing in real-time 3D art using Unity, Maya, and Photoshop (or related software).
• Portfolio demonstrating a passion for crafting charming and light-hearted imagery synonymous with Hearthstone
• Experience with recruiting exceptionally talented artists onto a team and helping them to “learn and grow” through mentorship and coaching.
• Able to effectively collaborate with every department of a game development team (game designers, programmers, tech art, animation, etc.).
• You’re a positive, proactive problem-solver and help lead by example while contributing to the studio culture with the actions you take on the team.
• You have a passion for Blizzard games and understand the unique approach to creating Blizzard art for our game universes.

Pluses

• Experience with hand-painting textures, especially related to the charming, colorful illustrated world of Hearthstone
• Experience in Unity or relevant experience in the mobile game space
• Experience playing Hearthstone or other digital card games
• Good technical chops and the ability to quickly master new pipelines and tools
