Rockstar Toronto is on the lookout for a talented Junior Technical Artist who possesses a passion for inventing and improving workflows to enhance game development. This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in Oakville.
WHAT WE DO
- We create complex character control rigs and deformation systems, pushing the industry’s technical and artistic boundaries.
- We work closely with other departments to influence UI design to be as intuitive as possible for the end user.
- We help develop the technical side of asset creation, build tools to automate production and enhance quality, develop complex deformation systems, create texture processing systems, and simulate engine features in our asset creation packages.
- Technical artists will prototype and research new software and techniques to aid art asset creation.
- We work alongside multiple departments to develop new techniques for artists, iterating on complex features until we can hand over a polished system to the end users.
- We help to bridge different disciplines; making code requirements and limitations relatable to artists and expressing artist objectives and goals to code.
- We always look for technologically affordable ways to add further layers of depth and detail to our assets throughout our games.
- We help to problem solve and diagnose unexpected issues with workflows for many departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create all sorts of rigging solutions for environmental assets and character bodies and faces.
- Interact closely with animators and technical artists to maintain and improve our proprietary animation tools.
- Collaborate effectively with other team disciplines, predominantly animation, character art, and code.
- Bring innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout production.
- Demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Positive, solution-oriented individual with a passion for game development.
- A demo reel which demonstrates exceptional skill in skinning human figure game assets for animation, both body and faces.
- Understanding of human body and facial anatomy as it relates to game assets and topology.
- Excellent understanding of development workflows as they relate to getting character and animation assets into game engines.
- Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a self-directed manner and to make timely, well-thought out decisions.
- Experience in scripting and programming languages (Python, C#, WPF etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of 3D Studio Max and/or Maya.
- Knowledge of Houdini is a definite plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work closely in a team setting with other departments.
