Our goal at Kano (www.kanoapps.com) is to build long lasting player-centric experiences, that provide us with challenges and opportunities in the gaming, business, and technical realms.

We are looking for a Junior Software Developer to help us deliver a world-class gaming experience to our millions of players worldwide. You will be involved in game development, system design, code review, and project planning on our flagship title Mob Wars: La Cosa Nostra. You will get the opportunity to leave your mark on our games, and provide entertainment for our devoted player base!

This is an in-office position at our HeadQuarters in beautiful Victoria, BC , where we offer flexible hours and scheduling. Applicants must be a BC resident and willing to relocate to Victoria at the time of submission.

You’ll be working on things like:

  • Implementing gameplay features that players interact with and enjoy every day
  • Full-stack development, moving between front and backend to support the systems that you build
  • Solving gameplay problems and challenges with a performance-focused mindset
  • Monitoring dashboards, logs and metrics to ensure gameplay stability
  • Working closely with small development teams to continuously release well organized and documented code
  • Collaborating with product, design, and creative teams to help us build towards world-class live products

Your background should include:

  • Passion for games! You are interested in the games industry, and keep up with the latest trends and ideas
  • Experience in web development and live web products/services
  • Experience with Object Oriented development practices
  • Experience with relational or non relational databases
  • Eagerness to learn and improve yourself as a developer
  • Ability to manage your time strategically, with a focus on execution
  • Confidence in your ability to problem solve, and think quickly on your feet

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • Professional or hobby experience in game development, or game related projects
  • Professional experience with an Object Oriented language (Java, C#, PHP, C++, Python, Javascript, etc)
  • Professional or hobby experience in native mobile development (Objective-C or Swift on iOS, Java or Kotlin on Android)
  • Experience with automated testing (unit testing, integration testing)
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with Unix (Linux and/or MacOS) environments
  • Experience with relational databases and database concepts
  • Experience with source control (namely Git)
