Job Purpose:
You will join the RuneScape Technologies Team to work on exciting projects. These projects support the operation and on-going enhancement of the RuneScape engine and associated systems.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Programming using Java & C++ to service assigned and scheduled requests for new enhanced technology in a flexible and fast-paced environment
- Developing client server architecture, having key ownership of the server technology powering RuneScape
- Researching, innovating and developing new game engine technology
- Working to keep our industry-leading technology ahead of the competition
- Being constantly proactive in finding ways to make our game
- technology faster, slimmer and more effective
Essential Requirements
- Strong C++, good Java and ideally Python
- Knowledge of rendering APIs, especially OpenGL, but not a strict requirement
- Understanding of basic game engine mechanics (i.e. the game/update loop, entity component systems, state machines, etc..)
- Some experience with version control systems, preferably Git and Perforce
- Good experience with Visual Studio and debugging. Experience with Eclipse and IntelliJ also welcome.
- Basic understanding of 3D game engine maths.
- Basic understanding of game engine client/server architectures
