Player Profile:
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the localisation into Japanese of assigned games from planning through to delivery.
This is a fixed-term contract for a minimum of 12 months’ duration. Demonstrated creative translation expertise and experience in voice over script localisation and adaptation.
- Translate / Proofread voice over scripts, in-game text and other game related documents from English to Japanese
- An understanding of Japanese and market cultural sensitivities would be an advantage
- Specialisation – having a good understanding of different gaming genres an advantage, especially first-person shooters.
- Assist with the actor casting, as well as voice over assessment for the Japanese language.
- Liaise with external Japanese localisation agencies and translators:
- Providing support by answering queries in a prompt and timely manner.
- Working with the agencies to set style direction and quality expectations.
- Continually providing feedback to agencies on performance.
- Work with the internal Project Management team to develop and implement plans which will deliver quality in the Japanese language games.
- Work closely with the internal QA Department during the quality assurance cycle of localised versions of games and be a point of escalation and advice to the Japanese QA testers on linguistic matters.
- Play and familiarise with the game during development to develop an understanding of the game. Use that game knowledge to deliver high quality creative translations.
- Communicate in a clear and timely fashion any risks, which could impact the delivery and quality of the games. Put corrective measures in place where possible.
- Create / Maintain the game glossaries, termbases, styleguides, translation memories
- Bug fixing of the game as required
Requirements:
- Strong written Japanese skills with an ability to write creatively when required and Strong English language skills
- Ideally a minimum 12 months’ previous experience as a Japanese Translator within the video game industry.
- Localisation - a minimum of 12 months’ previous experience internationalization \ localization process for Japanese
- Process development - has the ability to review, create and update existing processes, focusing on quality and efficiency improvements.
