About the role
The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for the management and monitoring of IT architecture to ensure the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability. This particular role will be focused across the Linux and Networking side of our infrastructure, however it is expected that in addition to undertaking these activities in these areas, a broad knowledge of the other infrastructure areas is expected to be developed.
What you will do
- The IT Systems Engineer will provide up to date and efficient technological solutions to support continued business growth in line with the strategy of the business.
- The role will require the successful candidate to identify areas of change and an awareness of the security risks to the business, ensuring any recommended solutions are secure.
- The role will also be focused on providing third line support on the business systems and infrastructure, ensuring issues are resolved within agreed SLAs.
- The role holder will act as a subject matter expert to the wider team in their area of expertise on escalated issues.
Key Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of infrastructure including storage solutions, servers, cloud services (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) and virtualisation technologies
- Good knowledge of networks including (but not limited to) switch and LAN configuration, Cisco firewalls, VPNs (end user and site to site)
- Broad knowledge of IT systems and applications to allow for identifying risks and potential solutions
- Ability to communicate at all levels and to translate technical issues to any audience
- Ability to prioritise own workload and deliver key deliverables in agreed timescales
- Strong documentation skills
- Eagerness and ability to stay appraised of the latest risks and technologies to mitigate risk
- Ability to prepare work to a high standard for more senior review
- Understanding of security requirements when appraising potential solutions
- Able to effectively plan and implement key operational changes that will impact the wider business
- Strong fact finding capabilities and able to use past experience and knowledge to resolve issues
- Strong propensity to learn and continue to develop knowledge outside areas of specialism
- Understanding of Veeam
- Knowledge of AD and Azure AD.
- Experience of working within structured server environments (primarily Linux but experience of Windows is advantageous)
