All positions at Playable Worlds are currently remote, but we plan to open one office location in the future as circumstances allow. This position must be local to the San Diego County area.
Summary
This IT Manager position is responsible for supporting the computer hardware and software needs for a group of home-based and future office-based employees.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing Help Desk support to a group of employees working remotely. This position is initially home-based, but the candidate must live within reasonable commuting distance of San Marcos, California.
Essential Job Functions
- Support Employees’ IT needs, including creating rational strategies for OS, anti-virus, and security updates.
- Develop a proactive approach towards security and preventative maintenance.
- Manage the internal servers, applications, and network for our development staff.
- Cooperate closely with our game operations staff.
- Manage hardware and software provisioning and inventory across disparate geographical locations.
- In conjunction with game teams, evaluate and deploy company-wide tools.
- Develop a proactive approach towards security and preventative maintenance.
- Provide Help Desk support for 50-70 employees working remotely across all four main U.S. time zones.
- Diagnose and collect relevant data for troubleshooting.
- Set up and install workstations for current and new employees.
- Administer and troubleshoot software applications.
- Install software and software updates/patches.
- Perform printer and scanner troubleshooting and setup.
- Maintain current documentation for IT solutions.
- Work collaboratively with other IT staff and office staff.
- Pick up, package, and ship equipment to employees, and manage the return of company equipment.
- Track and manage software license expirations and arrange for renewals where appropriate.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements
- Experience level: 5+ years of experience working with best practices in Information Technology, with at least 2 years of prior helpdesk experience.
- Education level: College degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or similar, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience working with best practices in Information Technology.
- Proficient in administering Google Workspace, Office 365, Jira/Confluence, AWS, Slack, and domain/DNS configuration.
- Experience with provisioning Windows and macOS systems.
- Ability to perform and manage the entire setup of an office with internet connectivity.
- Demonstrated ability to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications.
- Strong writing skills for authoring knowledge-based articles, policies, and procedures.
- Proficient in online ticketing tools to support remote workers.
- Ability to tackle long-term projects in an interrupt-driven environment.
- Ability to search for help independently via the internet.
- Ability to take initiative in learning new concepts, seeking additional information, and asking questions of co-workers when uncertain.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive to various locations in the Southern California area.
- Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion.
- Skilled at communicating effectively with employees and external third parties.
- Skilled at active listening and the ability to demonstrate patience.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Must be able to bend, twist, and maneuver physically as needed to install, repair, ship, and/or maintain office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion.

- CompTIA A+ Certificate is beneficial but not required.

- Playable Worlds is headquartered in San Marcos, California. All positions are currently remote due to the pandemic.
