IP Counsel

The Riot Legal Team has the responsibility to constantly provide the highest quality legal services that fully align with Riot's company mission of putting players first. Figuring out what's "best for the company" always begins with thinking about what's "best for players." Every policy or contract that we draft; every lawsuit that we file or defend against; every letter we send; and all the legal advice that we give to our business partners is always done with our players' interests in mind.

As IP Counsel, reporting to the Head of Legal for Games & Intellectual Property, you'll play a major role in all areas of intellectual property law, including by providing support for Riot's IP and commercial litigation docket; IP enforcement efforts; prosecution of copyrights, trademarks and patents; and IP clearance questions. You'll help Riot navigate the intersection of new technology, game development, and the law. You'll work closely with outside counsel and a small team of in-house attorneys and paralegals to protect Riot's IP so that we can deliver awesome experiences for our players for decades to come.

Responsibilities:

• IP Litigation & Enforcement:
  • Support all aspects of IP-related and commercial litigation, dispute resolution, and strategy
  • Regularly liaise with outside counsel
  • Collaborate with in-house attorneys and paralegals on IP enforcement efforts
  • Oversee internal document collection and production, including working with our paralegals and the external e-discovery vendors
• IP Prosecution & Counseling:
  • Support Riot's global patent, trademark, and copyright protection strategies and portfolios
  • Prepare and deliver IP trainings to product teams
  • Counsel product teams on IP issues
  • Assist with maintaining an internal IP Docket and Clearance Database
  • Conduct IP due diligence for M&A transactions

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience working on IP litigation, counseling, enforcement and/or prosecution matters at a premier law firm and/or company
• J.D. from a top tier U.S. law school and membership in at least one state bar (preferably CA)

Desired Qualifications:

• Significant litigation and/or IP prosecution experience
• Experience representing video game companies

(Los Angeles only) Base salary range between $151,000 USD - $211,000 USD + incentive compensation + equity + 401K with company match + medical, dental, vision, and life insurance + short and long-term disability + open PTO.
