Job Description
The main role of the Human Factors Engineer will be to develop human factors/ergonomics test protocols, carry out data collection/experiments, process and analyze data, and communicate results within the HF team and to other stakeholders. The candidate must be proactive and successful in managing his/her own projects and time, while also being flexible and responsive to the HF team and stakeholder support needs. The candidate should strive to continuously grow his/her own in-depth knowledge of specialised ergonomics domains applicable to Magic Leap specific products. The Human Factors Engineer will support the Director of Human Factors by identifying Human Factors and Ergonomics test and evaluation study requirements as derived from collaborative projects or correspondence with designers, engineers, program managers and product developers. The Human Factors engineer will focus mainly on physical ergonomics aspects relating to the improvement of product fit, comfort and functional performance. Inputs will stretch across different Wearable and User Interface Peripheral product types as well as systems. In addition to the role described above, this role will largely work with managing the Anthropometric database (including updating where needed), as well as conducting analysis in 3D CAD environment to understand areas of poor fit, comfort or performance, as well as provide inputs to other stakeholders such as Mechanical Engineers and Industrial Designers for improving the product design.
Experience and required skills
- Proven experience applying theoretical knowledge about Ergonomics principles and stereotypes to product design
- Experience collecting human subject data such as Anthropometry, Physiological, Biomechanical, Performance, Comfort and Preference
- Experience collecting traditional as well as 3D Anthropometric data, and applying it to physical product design a bonus
- Experience measuring and interpreting engineering or environmental data such as Temperature, Vibration, Noise, Pressure and Force a bonus
- Proven experience in experimental design, data analysis and compiling findings in report and presentation format
- Knowledge of task analysis, functional analysis, user comfort and preference assessment
- Must have good verbal communication skills for communication within HF team, across teams, and presentation to pears and other stakeholders
- Fluency using Microsoft or Google Software products such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Sheets, Docs, Slides
- Proven experience creating Google Forms a bonus
- Experience using 3dMD scan products a bonus
- Proven experience conducting Anthropometry data analysis in CAD in order to understand fit or provide product design inputs
- Experience conducting statistical analysis
- Experience using SPSS a bonus
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Human Factors or Ergonomics, or in a related field such as Biomedical Engineering,Sports Science, Biomechanics, Anthropology, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Engineering. He or she will have experience working with human subjects for test and evaluation, preferably as part of a product development process. A minimum of 3 years experience as Human Factors Engineer or Ergonomics Researcher required. Experience providing Human Factors or Ergonomics design inputs and/or evaluations on wearable and/or user interface peripheral equipment will be a bonus. Demonstration of the skills listed above required.
