Historical Writer

World’s Edge is looking for a Historical Writer to join the Age of Empires team. Our beloved gaming franchise of more than 20 years is based in human history and storytelling and we’re looking for a historical writer to help us tell more of those stories. Our ideal candidate will have strong writing experience, a passion for historical content and an eye for quality. In this role you’ll be working with both Narrative and Customer Voice directors to create engaging content that brings history to life.

Key responsibilities will be:

• Working with the Director of Customer Voice and Narrative Director to determine a list of pieces to be created.

• Working with the World’s Edge and our partners around the world to establish tone and style for the pieces.

• Write to briefs, bring content to review groups and make necessary edits in line with feedback.

• Researching each piece for historical accuracy.

• Working with specialist teams to review content for cultural, national and/or religious sensitivities to ensure respectful and accurate representation.

Qualifications:

• Professional writing experience in print and/or online.

• A minimum of a BA in English, History or another related academic subject.

• Experience in working with stakeholders on content reviews.

• Excellence in written quality. Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation are musts.

• Experience in working with multiple teams within a company or publication.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrative passion for history, the medieval period in particular.

• Passion for and understanding of gaming, gaming culture, and the sentiment patterns of gaming communities.

The ideal candidate will also possess:

• Experience in formatting and publishing written pieces for websites.

• Proficiency with image editing tools such as Photoshop.

• An interest in world history and proficiency in historical research methods.

• Formal writing experience and familiarity with grammatical style guides.

• A passion for historical fiction (both literature and Film/Television)
