Position Summary

Crystal Dynamics is looking for a Combat Designer to own the design, implementation, and overall execution of multiplayer action gameplay. This Combat Designer will be responsible for working with gameplay and discipline leads to plan, prototype and build game systems that impact all pillars of the game’s design. Design responsibilities include but are not limited to implement and document new game systems focusing on combat and traversal; with a high level of cross departmental communication and iteration with other disciplines to create exciting ‘AAA’ quality combat experiences.

Essential Duties:

• Primary focus for this position overseeing all aspects of hero-based combat control, tuning and balance in a multiplayer environment
• Prototype, build, and ultimately own the moment-to-moment combat and traversal experience

• Design, implement and extensively test combat systems for gear, traversal and player abilities
• Engage and respond with playtest feedback and data to iterate and improve the experience

Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:

• Deep knowledge and understanding of games-as-a-service products
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment

• Ability to anticipate, prioritize and organize work to meet objectives
• Ability to work independently or with a team structure – including in a remote environment
• Strong cross-departmental communication

Essential Requirements:

• Experience working as a combat/hero designer on a title with post launch support

• Deep knowledge of both historical and current trends in combat design
• Familiar with tuning combat systems for playable characters
• Experience designing and documenting weapon systems, damage systems or multiplayer combat tuning

Pluses

• Contributed to the design of multiplayer systems for highly rated AAA games-as-a-service product or action-adventure titles or 3rd person shooter titles
• Understanding and experience in different ongoing business models
• Working with outsourced studios, reviewing their work, and providing feedback
• Experience designing and implementing hero-based character archetypes
