Head of Strategy, Worldwide Studios

Head of Strategy, WWS

The Head of Strategy and Market Intelligence will collaborate with global leadership team of Worldwide Studios (WWS). Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sony Group on strategy development, strategy implementation, maintaining industry-wide perspective on key trends, distilling insights and implications for Worldwide Studios (WWS) and support Sony Group in M&A and partnership activities. This role reports to the Head of WWS.

• Strategy Development
• Co-creates the longer-term strategic growth ambition (2020-2024) through organic growth, innovation and M&A
• Drives the strategic planning process in partnership with a select team of topic experts within WWS, SIE and Sony Group, including external landscape reviews, consumer insights, growth opportunity assessment and decision support.
• Define how WWS can support SIE’s business priorities and strategic initiatives and coordinate this accordingly
• Identifies, assesses and prioritizes strategic growth opportunities, capitalizing upon market conditions, industry trends, competitor moves, consumer trends and new technology developments
• Strategy Implementation
• Supports the implementation of the strategy by leading key strategic projects/initiatives and by supporting Sony Group in evaluating, and closing acquisitions, divestitures
• In alignment with the strategic plan, maintains a robust portfolio review at WWS level to ensure high priority initiatives stay on track and deliver against objectives
• Market intelligence: Industry-wide perspective on key trends and implications
• Take the lead in developing and implementing WWS-focused/driven insights and analytics projects in partnership with the business
• Monitors and reports key insights in market conditions, industry trends, competitor moves, consumer trends, new technology developments and distribution channels
• Identifies implications for WWS and advises accordingly
• M&A and Partnerships
• Supports Sony Group and SIE in analysing the universe of prospective companies in order to identify potential acquisition and partnership transactions through industry-wide networking as aligned to the Strategic growth ambition

Experience

• Requires Master’s Degree; MBA preferred.
• Requires a minimum of ten (10+) years’ experience in business development, corporate development, strategic planning or finance within the gaming and/or entertainment industry

• Strong strategic thinker with proven financial assessment, decision support analyses, and tactical execution capabilities
• Demonstrates strong critical thinking and expresses ideas clearly, concisely and logically, proactively flagging issues and proposing solutions
• Ability to make balanced and insightful decisions
• Able to stretch the ambition level whilst searching for practical solutions for implementation

Way of working

• Ability to multi-task and work on several complex projects simultaneously
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others
• Ability to foster a collaborative approach to achieve Sony Group wide goals

Practicalities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Must be willing to travel 30% of the time
