POSITION DESCRIPTION

The success of PlayStation consoles over the years has not only been thanks to the talented teams within Sony Worldwide Studios, but also thanks to the great exclusive games we have created together with independent developers.

The Head of External Development will be responsible for seeking out, evaluating and managing the best independent game development teams in the world – from established AAA creators through to innovative start-ups, and release their games exclusively on PlayStation to the highest possible quality and success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• As part of the PlayStation Worldwide Studios Management team, identify portfolio opportunities, establishing and delivering a development strategy to support the PlayStation business
• Work with independent game developers to bring new innovative IP and help build them into long-term franchises for PlayStation
• Driver of successful business and production partnerships with key external teams, ensuring smooth integration
• Direct P&L, production and studio budget management
• Define and evolve external strategic studio plans in line with corporate goals
  

EXPERIENCE

• Requires 20+ years’ experiencing in global video game development and publishing
• Prior experience in attracting and managing multiple game development studios
• Leadership in planning and building successful gaming franchises across multiple channels and platforms
• Proven skills in building new ambitions AAA game experiences, maintaining successful franchises
• History of successfully working with global studios ranging from small start-ups to large AAA development teams
  

QUALIFICATION

• Creative and consultative decision maker, skilled at resolving issues and moving projects forward
• Seasoned executive capable of understanding and aligning with high level business goals
• Deep technical understanding of game development process to produce AAA titles with teams of fewer than 25 to more than 200 video game professionals
• Demonstrates strong critical thinking and expresses ideas clearly, concisely and logically, proactively flagging issues and proposing solutions
• Ability to make balanced and insightful decisions
• Able to stretch the ambition level whist searching for practical solutions for implementation
• Ability to contribute experience and insight to a global management team
