We’re committed to creating incredible digital products for our customers and fans and have handpicked a product development partner that we consider the world’s best. Up until now the engineering team has been led by our partner, ustwo, but given the commitment and scale of our ambitions we need someone 100% committed to leading our technology efforts into the future - mobile, backend and frontend, as well as continuing to work with our partners. We are looking for an exceptional and experienced Head of Engineering to be part of our next chapter. Our ambition is to help millions of people become healthy, fit and happy. The aspiration is high, and so is our commitment.

About the Body Coach

At the Body Coach we are on a mission to make the world fitter, healthier and happier. We cannot do this alone, so we are building a community of talent to enable our mission and are currently looking for a Head of Engineering.

The Body Coach story goes back almost 10 years when Joe Wicks started handing out flyers at his local train station - trying to encourage people to come to his bootcamp in the park. Ten years and some 600,000 clients later, the brand has grown with his passion and now spans the 90 day plan, Europe’s biggest YouTube fitness channel, 9 best-selling books and most recently - the launch of the Body Coach App!

Our values

As the leader of the technology discipline at The Body Coach, the Head of Engineering role is key to ensuring that we are building things the right way and with the right technologies, but most importantly we are looking for people who share our values and commitment to make the world fitter, healthier and happier .

The role

You will be the most senior technical voice in the company, and will be responsible for technical decision-making, solution architecture, ways-of-working, and making sure that our technology is current, robust and performant.

You will be the first key engineering hire for the business and will also be responsible for building and leading a world-class team in-house.

We have already built an impressive, progressive technical infrastructure and have implemented a complete custom backend along with native mobile apps for iOS and Android (coming soon) using best-in-class technologies. You will be joining as the leading voice for how we continuously evolve, improve and scale our platform to meet the vision and the international potential of the product.

It goes without saying that you’re an exceptional leader with a diverse and deep set of technical skills, who is excited by the potential of The Body Coach App and business. You have the chops - we don’t care if you’ve delivered 100 projects, but we do care that you have delivered and scaled at least one incredible product that blows our mind. The Body Coach App is growing fast. We have an exceptional team and significant growth plans.

This is a leadership role and you will work directly with the CEO, COO and Head of Product of The Body Coach.

Your key responsibilities

  4. Work directly with the different technical disciplines - native iOS and Android, backend / fullstack, DevOps, and frontend. You have the skills and experience to work effectively across these technologies and understand their individual complexities as well as their interdependencies.
  5. Own the selection and management of critical third-party vendors/systems for all areas of the technical ecosystem.
  6. Work directly and actively with the Product team on the product roadmap, backlog, and product strategy, ensuring that there is alignment between the Product and Engineering teams and roadmaps.
  7. Help drive the Agile development process and collaborative ways of working that keeps our product on the cutting edge, providing leadership to the teams and making sure they are current in their development practices, toolchains, and implementation approach.
  8. Work with teams across the Body Coach (Product, Support Heroes, Marketing, Content, Leadership) to ensure we always deliver for our customers and they’re able to enjoy a brilliant and compelling experience every time they interact with us.
  9. Share accountability for delivering against critical metrics for our business and products.
  10. Contribute to The Body Coach developing a positive, progressive and inclusive working culture as we realise our bold plans for growth.
