Both companies are part of Spin Master’s Digital Games division. SpinMaster is a leading global children’s entertainment company that creates, designs, and manufactures a diversified portfolio of innovative toys, games, products, and entertainment properties.
Sago Mini and Originator Kids are currently going through a phase of growth, and we are looking for an HR Manager to support our North American teams, lead all HR coordination and management activities for the organization, while concurrently working with internal stakeholders to retain, support and grow top talent. You are part of the Spin Master team and will need to leverage best practices and cascade HR initiatives from Spin Master to the North American digital games studios and teams. You will customize these initiatives appropriately and ensure there is adoption within each studio as well as meeting the various needs the digital games studios may have. From time to time, this may require alignment between global programs and processes with local best practices.
This will be a hybrid position that allows you to work from home and also at our headquarters located at 171 John Street in Toronto.
What You’ll be Doing
- Develop a deep understanding of our workplace, business and culture
- Support management teams by providing HR advice and counsel and guide decisions based on the companies’ best practices
- Manage HR data and ensure its integrity
- Work with internal teams and talent acquisition manager to ensure employee data is up-to-date and accurate
- Responsible for inputting, tracking, and ensuring accuracy of data in Workday, sharing reports with the business management team
- Support reporting of payroll and benefits and work with the finance team to ensure employees are properly coded
- Assist in resolving payroll questions and communications with employees
- Ensuring employee job descriptions and job profiles are accurate and manage changes around this
- Execute on all aspects of HR and employee experience
- Ensure all steps in onboarding and offboarding are completed while partnering with business managers and talent acquisition manager
- Ensure new hires are onboarded into workday and have an onboarding plan
- Facilitate relocation process, ensuring new hires have proper work permits and government compliance is complete
- Facilitate terminations, working with VP of HR and outside counsel to determine severance packages and presentation
- Communicate HR policies
- Communicate new initiatives company-wide as well as best practices to all teams from compliance training and inclusion training to ensuring policies are up-to date and communicated
- Provide training on rollouts in Workday including goal-setting, merit planning, and performance review assessments
- Act as the bridge from corporate communications from Spin Master (parent company) to smaller subsidiaries like Sago Mini and Originator
- Partner with management to support the long-term business strategy
- Work closely with the management teams of Sago Mini and Originator to understand company growth and how you can assist in achieving goals
- Review staffing and team needs and strategize for anticipated growth and attrition
- Advise on industry trends for HR best practices, compensation, and benefits
Qualifications and Skills
- 5 to 7 years of progressive HR business partner experience across all keys HR areas
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in HR or related field
- Experience in non-integrated HRIS and managing HRIS (Workday) and payroll data
- Strong knowledge of employment standards, workplace investigations, and case management
- Benefits administration experience
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proactive, results-oriented, proven record of exemplifying sound decision making in support of organizational policies and goals
- Ability to recognize and react appropriately to confidential situations
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
- Identify issues early and knows when to escalate
Nice to Haves
- CHRL or CHRP designation
- Health and safety certification or experience
- Previous experience in the digital gaming space
