Climax Studios was founded over 30 years ago and we have a state of the art studio located in the heart of the beautiful Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth overlooking the Harbour. We have an extensive history in developing all kinds of AAA games across all formats, through to co-development and technological problem solving and we’ve won many awards along the way. Our recent projects include Crackdown 3 and the BAFTA award winning Returnal.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated HR Manager who will work in partnership with the Studio Head, UK HR Manager and the HR team to effectively develop and maintain capability and achieve high standards in all people related polices and processes.
HR Manager’s role will be focused on Employee Relations. You will be responsible for supporting the Senior Leadership team and Managers with the day-to-day. The role will also manage and supervise all personnel processes: personnel planning, acquisition and onboarding, personnel management and development (training, evaluation, career paths, remuneration policies, corporate welfare, payroll, HR administration, Budget, performance management system etc.) up to the off boarding of the staff, operating in line with the Studio’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities and Activities:
- Responsible for developing and managing the HR Function in the studio.
- Support and monitor teams to ensure studio ER issues (sickness, performance, timekeeping/attendance, conflict management, conduct, holidays etc.) are managed appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Coaching team members on ER issues and involving the studio Leadership Team as and when required.
- Working with managers to identify development needs for their teams and mentor/coach managers to identify appropriate solutions including training, performance reviews etc.
- Manage Employee Health & Safety, Welfare & Wellbeing initiatives and facilities.
- Driving high standards of people and business performance through performance management, succession and manpower planning (assisting Department Heads), talent management (working with Talent Acquisition Manager to ensure planned talent attraction and retention).
- Advise on required interventions to manage underperforming areas.
- Working closely with the Operations team to enhance studio culture, plus ensure studio best practices and processes are upheld.
- Implement Compensation & Benefits policies, in line with the Studio and Group strategy.
- Provide technical advice and knowledge within the human resources discipline in the studio.
- Act as a HR Business Partner for the studio for Local and global HR projects/tasks/activities
- Working closely with Keyword Studios local and global HR Teams and acting as the Studio point of contact for all HR issues. Supporting HR strategy for the senior leadership team and the studio in line with Keywords Studios’ direction.

- Strong technical expertise and knowledge of all the HR areas.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the studio Management Team, to manage and engage stakeholders effectively and to develop effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
- Initiative and responsibility: willingness to act pro-actively by identifying opportunities and anticipate changes.
- A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the “pulse” of the employee and ensure a high level of employee engagement.
- Experience in managing and developing a HR team.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to create good and strong relationships with different kind of local and international stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical capability; experience of creation and analysis of HR metrics to find root causes and drive appropriate solutions.
- Strong customer service focus.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent ability to organize and structure own workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience of working with and influencing middle and senior management. Plus, an ability to build rapport across all levels.
- CIPD qualified or equivalent degree or experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of Employment Law legislation and HR practices.
- Can demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions and new approaches, plus proactively initiate change and continuous improvement.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience.
- Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Experience of dealing with employee relations relating to remote/hybrid working.
- Knowledge of Employee Visa/Sponsorship Programmes.
- Experience of working in a technology and/or fast-growing business.
Technical Skills
- Excellent ability to organize and structure own workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience of working with and influencing middle and senior management. Plus, an ability to build rapport across all levels.
- CIPD qualified or equivalent degree or experience.
