For 30 years we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and mo-cap studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We operate across multiple UK locations, with studios based in Oxford, Warwick, Liverpool and Wakefield. The Opportunity
The Group Financial Controller is a new role within Rebellion, your role will be to define, develop, propose and implement a best in class Financial Control function (team of 10). You will lead and enhance Financial Control disciplines of management accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting, tax and financial controls to large private business and full listed company standards. You will be accountable for key statutory, regulatory (not significant obligations) tax and other external reporting and stakeholder relationship management to ensure that the business is meeting its external obligations.
Responsibilities
- Provide key leadership for the financial control team in ensuring a cohesive company financial reporting cycle
- Manage the financial reporting cycle including being the lead contact with the external auditors, producing the year end financial statements and annual report including all areas of technical accounting and reporting and presenting progress on a regular basis to the CFO and Co Founders.
- Ensure group accounting policies and processes are appropriate at all times and aligned to Rebellion’s business objectives.
- Lead the financial integration (systems and process) change programme to significantly enhance the Financial Control function including all aspects of management and financial reporting. This will require significant change leadership for a major programme including communication and stakeholder management as well as technical leadership.
- Accountable for the Rebellion Financial Controls Framework and maintaining highest quality financial controls throughout the group.
- Accountable for company secretarial duties for all legal entities including compliance, reporting, processes and registrations
- Lead a team of finance professionals in the management accounting and financial reporting teams which will include both contractors as well as permanent employees. Conduct a review of the team and structure, and consider evolving the organisation design to best suit Rebellion’s current business and strategy.
- Key lead role in risk and audit committees including all financial reporting matters such as the preparation of judgement papers on matters of significance and identifying potential or actual financial risks, ensuring appropriate escalation and mitigation.
- Representing Rebellion at appropriate meetings with external parties including the external Auditors, legal, tax, banking partners, other regulators and industry bodies.
- Responsible for supporting FP&A team in group wide cost control (actuals and forecasts) the preparation of the Group annual budget, monthly & quarterly forecasts and financial aspects of business plans and appropriate analysis / challenge to improve performance.
- Fostering commercial partnering through periods of change, evolving and maintaining these relationships.
- Working with FP&A team to support them in the development of proposed business planning scenarios with guidance on profit, capital and risk considerations.
- Together with other senior finance members, define and develop finance strategic projects and gain support at the executive level.
- Build strong relationships with the leadership team, senior business management and the Rebellion community;.
Requirements
- Extensive and proven senior level financial control experience preferably in the game, film, media and entertainment industries
- Experience of operating in a large private business (£1bn valuation) or listed company. including working alongside senior management in external stakeholder communications and where appropriate, to affect announcements, and quarterly trading updates
- Comprehensive experience and expert technical knowledge of key accounting standards and policies including IFRS and UK GAAP as well as regulatory reporting experience. This includes critical areas of technical expertise relevant to Rebellion such as capitalisation of development costs, provisions for impairment, tax R&D, VGTR and FTR
- Strong leadership skills and experience of managing teams >10
- Comprehensive knowledge of strategic and operational financial management in sectors relevant to Rebellion
- Sound knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment in which the company operates.
- Analytical by nature and experience; ability to handle and interpret large amounts of data in a meaningful way. Intellectually agile. Able to understand when and how to use data and insight for optimum benefit.
- Ability to present findings in a structured and well thought-through way, particularly when addressing a non-expert audience. Strong presentation skills; able to stand in front of the Board, audit committee and executive team, and speak fluently about financial reporting.
- Highly resilient and organised. Independent minded and decisive with willingness to challenge.
- Proactive operating style with ability to identify issues before they impact the business.
- Very sound judgement and business instinct with high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and operate in a business environment with matrix reporting lines, delivering through virtual teams.
