Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent studio in Vancouver and we are looking for a passionate and experienced programmer to join our team! Homeworld 3 is the upcoming entry in the award-winning franchise that revolutionized 3D strategy. It will continue the powerful space epic journey of the Hiigaran people through the galaxy while offering best-in-class space combat and visuals. Fans will find everything they know and love from Homeworld, reimagined for the modern age in Unreal Engine: enigmatic megastructures to navigate through and use as cover; jaw-dropping environments on a massive scale, and upgraded ballistics simulation. Do you want to build compelling game experiences having designed, prototyped, and delivered high-profile gameplay systems, features, and tools? Do you love working with a team of talented designers, artists, and programmers to create ambitious in-game content? You will be part of a high-performing team who can crunch ideas quickly and come up with dazzling solutions to challenging problems. You will have a collaborative approach and be directly involved in the day-to-day decision-making and ship a high-quality game.
Responsibilities
- Implement robust and innovative game features, with an eye to code quality and maintainability.
- Work closely with designers to understand and refine design intentions via prototypes and rapid iteration.
- Collaborate continuously with art, design and technical teams to define requirements and iteratively build solutions.
- Jump wholeheartedly into learning new technologies and systems and leverage them in creative ways to meet our technical and business needs.
- Assess requirements and provide effort estimates to guide an evolving development plan.
- Embrace and help improve our engineering practices for solid design, testing, and implementation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of game development experience using C++ (UnrealEngine is fine)
- Self-direction and a proven ability to thrive in a highly dynamic environment.
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, including verbal and written skills.
Pluses
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Multi-platform development experience.
- Mobile development experience
- Avid gamer
- Demonstrated passion for entertainment products/media (i.e. comics, movies, novels, etc.)
