General 3D Artist - Remote/Hybrid

Auroch Digital is looking for artists to help deliver a broad range of games, from retro-inspired action games to stylized, top-down strategy & management games.
Auroch are part of the Sumo Group of companies, originally established in 2010 and with an extensive catalogue, including Mars Horizon and Dark Future: Blood Red States. We have an exciting stable of licensed and independent IP games in development including our upcoming beer brewing hobby game Brewmaster. As a General Artist, you will have one or more game production cycles in a team. You have a striking portfolio demonstrating creative flair, with subject matters covering several areas of 3D. You have an overall understanding of environment, character, and general 3D practices, with a good knowledge of optimisation for real time techniques.
The successful candidate will work on a stylised game based on an original IP.
Responsibilities:
- Model & texture stylised assets using reference material.
- Create stylised textures that can be applied to multiple assets.
- Working with your Lead and Designers to iterate assets until completion.
- Ensuring all assets follow the given artistic direction and technical requirements.
- Participate in feedback and planning sessions with the art team.
- Estimate task times and help prioritize art tasks.
- Keeping up to date with the latest art trends and techniques and bringing this knowledge to the team.
Requirements:
- Experience as a 3D artist on commercial game projects.
- A good understanding of optimisation throughout asset creation.
- A portfolio demonstrating experience in creating high quality assets and textures in Unreal Engine 4 or Unity, with focus on real time games.
- Excellent knowledge of 3D Studio Max, Maya or Blender, as well as strong art fundamentals.
- Excellent understanding of PBR and Stylised workflows, the ability to author textures and materials using Substance Designer, Painter, and Photoshop.
- A strong sense of aesthetics, quality, and style, with an interest to adapt to different art styles based on the project.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Strong ability to self-direct and problem solve as needed; proactive in seeking feedback and support.
- Able to provide feedback to colleagues in a positive, supporting, and constructive manner.
Desirable:
- Ability to sculpt in ZBrush or similar programs.
- 2D Art skills appropriate for Paintover work and visual development.
- Technical art skills, such as shader and material creation in Unity Shader Graph / UE4 Material Editor.
- Other skills, such as VFX, Rigging, Animation etc.
