On being a Game Release Manager at Ubisoft Toronto
As the Game Release Manager, you will have the responsibility of managing game deliveries. This includes release calendar proposals, timely closing, overall quality and deployments planning. You will be involved in the evolution of the delivery pipeline with a continuous delivery mindset, using both process and technology at your disposal.
Type of Position: Permanent, full-time.
Responsibilities:
The main and routine tasks of this position are to ensure on time delivery and quality of major and continuous game version deliveries.
Planning / Process
- Define, document, and maintain the release plan roadmap and uphold quality of game content and player experience
- Ensure releases have passed all required checks and approvals and ensure releases documentation timely delivery and quality; (ex: patch notes, known issues, error codes)
- Design and implement mitigation and contingency plans in collaboration with the release management specialist/release coordinator
- Actively participate in the performance assessment and the evolution of the delivery pipeline
- Facilitate release planning meetings and communicate/document product release status with key stakeholders
- Collaborate with teams in different areas to highlight and resolve issues
- Oversee the work of the release management specialist and/or release coordinator when applicable
Problem solving
- Ensure that risks and issues are identified, understood, and dealt with in a manner that mitigates risks to scope and schedule
- Propose mitigation and contingency plans
- Improve closing process
- Collaborate with multiple disciplines to surface and resolve issues
- Carry out all other related tasks
Qualifications
Training:
Degree in management or equivalent training or the equivalent combination of education, training or work experience.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of gaming industry expertise
- 2 to 3 years of experience in release management and operations of online games
- Proven ability to conduct releases with cross-functional stakeholders in organization.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent knowledge of game publishing schemes on different platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
- Capacity to make important decisions in highly stressful situations
- Rigorous & methodical
- Excellent sense of priorities & time management skill
- Excellent ability for problem solving
- Strong communication skills
- Proven knowledge of areas of expertise in game production process
- Good understanding of game publishing scheme.
