Game Economy Designer
We are the makers of casual mobile hit Love & Pies, which globally launched in September 2021 and has now found its way into the hands of millions of players around the world. We’re backed by Supercell, one of the biggest and best in the industry.
Our team always comes first at Trailmix, and our culture is built on both high performance and high care — we strive to be the best versions of ourselves, but always within an environment based on inclusivity, respect and safety, no matter who you are or where you come from.
At Trailmix, we aim to make games that are not only snackable but nourishing too — built to fit into your daily life, but with the emotional depth of your favourite TV show. For the design team, that means constantly asking two questions: how can we create designs that rival the most successful casual games in the world, and what experiences and emotional sustenance can we give our players that they’ve never experienced in games before? The former is all about crafting wonderful distractions that stay fresh for years; the latter is about creating story worlds our players want to inhabit for a lifetime.
About the role:
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and hands-on Game Economy Designer to make a big impact on a rapidly growing and successful game with huge amounts of potential.
The ideal candidate will be excited to dive into the complexities of a game in live operations and help the game team balance, optimise, and analyse the holistic player experience through the lens of game economy.
Spreadsheets, simulations, and data will be your weapons as you aim to optimise and scale the currencies and systems of Love & Pies to improve player experience and achieve business objectives - all while respecting the importance of the creative vision and ultimately, our players.
Responsibilities:
- Drive forward game economy initiatives at Trailmix; acting as an evangelist for best practice and leveling up our thinking.
- Advocate for critical changes to game economy as input into both the game design strategy and roadmap of Love & Pies.
- Work with and analyse player data to determine insights and action points to improve the player experience and achieve business objectives.
- Design and create new tools and simulations to help you achieve your mission; including but not limited to spreadsheets.
- Maintain a holistic picture of the game experience as it pertains to systems and the economy.
- Inform both stakeholders and team members of key risks, opportunities and action points - parsing complex information into simple, succinct terms.
- Help the game design team balance difficulty, rewards and sinks of new features and help them integrate these features seamlessly into the broader game.
- Continually monitor and tweak major economy health touchpoints; reporting suggestions for game design strategy accordingly.
- Safeguard the creative intent of individual features and the game as a whole parallel to pushing for optimal performance.
- Create and maintain documentation related to the game economy, making it accessible and readable for the rest of the team where appropriate.
- Have an eye on what’s happening in the broader F2P market and bring exciting new initiatives to the table.
Requirements:
- Significant experience working in systems/economy design or product management in a live service game (F2P and GaaS experience a plus)
- Is an expert in virtual economies with proven experience in designing and modeling systems, items, characteristics, price points, sources and sinks.
- Able to work closely with a cross discipline game team including game designers, product managers, developers, data scientists and artists to help optimize Love & Pies’ game economy.
- Understands and owns how the interaction of systems and currencies affects the holistic experience of the game.
- Ability to develop your own tools and simulations is a big plus.
- Hands on Unity experience a plus.
- Experience with version control (Git etc.)
Location:
Trailmix is currently operating under a hybrid work model - we have 3 days a week (Monday, Thursday & Friday) in person at our brand new studio in Kings X with the remaining 2 days available to work from home.
Benefits:
- Flexible working

Inclusive Culture:
Trailmix was founded to make a positive impact on our players, our community, and our colleagues. We are committed to creating an inclusive culture, and fostering an environment where people can flourish is our priority. We think it’s vital that players see themselves represented in games, and in Love & Pies we showcase the beautiful diversity of life. Love & Pies represents the people we are and the people we love, and we’re always looking to add more people who want to design games for everyone.
