Welcome to Timbre!
We are Timbre Games (part of the Sumo Digital Group), a new studio in Vancouver, Canada focused on making exciting, innovative game experiences. Timbre’s vision is to change the games industry through the original games we make, as well as how we make them. We’re building an inclusive, supportive culture that allows us to explore fresh, new (and sometimes weird) ideas. We’re searching for more visionary explorers to join our team of diverse voices, coming together to develop games that are accessible to a wide audience.
If you’re thinking about your next adventure, send us your resume to talk to our team about how you can add your voice to the games we’re working on.
Design at Timbre Games
A great Timbre Designer strives to be curious, humble, authentic and adaptable. Great ideas come from everywhere, and we have the exciting opportunity to harness the power of collaboration to create something truly special.
At Timbre, designers are here to build a cohesive vision using inclusive practices and help create clarity for our team around what the game experience aspires to be.
We are the voice of our players and the heart of the game. Constantly learning as we go, we use our skills and lean on those around us to shape quality experiences that capture our audience's imagination.
Together, alongside the rest of our talented team, we create confidence in Timbre's vision of building diverse, meaningful AAA games using the latest software technologies.
As a Game Director at Timbre, you’ll bring the entire team together around a common vision for the game. You inspire, guide, and listen to the team, defining the creative pillars for the project. You provide the space for the team to explore, experiment, and find the fun in every aspect of the game. You bring a player’s mindset to development and always consider how our decisions will make the players feel. You bring your authentic voice & all of who you are to Timbre, encouraging your team to do the same. You empower the team, using collaboration, inclusion and mentorship.
As a Game Director at Timbre, you will:
- Champion the Timbre values of clarity and fun in the creative direction of the project, bringing Timbre’s IPs to life with humour and inventive curiosity
- Build and communicate the game’s pillars in collaboration with the team, ensuring that each one enhances and informs our creative decisions with a focus on the player experience
- Build a diverse design team that values cross-discipline collaboration, focused on player experience
- Partnering with Design leadership, you will elevate Timbre’s Game Development best practices, and be able to articulate this at a studio level
- Effectively communicate what the game IS and IS NOT to team members, the studio, our external partners and our player community
- Create a coaching culture by guiding the team through challenges, and empowering them to identify solutions
- Lead a growing team through each stage of development, shifting creative priorities and approaches as the game evolves
- Collaborate with the core leadership team to develop structure, plans, and processes to realize the vision for the game, iterating and learning as we grow through the project
What you bring:
- No matter what path you’ve taken to becoming a Game Director, you’re curious and excited about all aspects of game development, and how to shape them to create a sense of delight and joy in players
- 7+ years of experience in a leadership creative role, from prototype to final on a shipped console or PC game
- Experience managing other Game Designers and Design Leaders, overseeing the growth and development of your team to the next steps in their careers
- An infectious sense of curiosity, and a willingness to explore a wide range of (sometimes bizarre) ideas that helps create clarity in the concept
- A collaborative approach to communication: you are experienced in delivering clear, concise messages that are easily understood by all disciplines, as well as any external partners
- A deep knowledge and understanding of game design, understanding where games are today and where they’re going
- An appreciation and understanding of procedural content generation (PCG), preferably having shipped at least one game (as a Lead or Director) with procedural content
