The role @ The Chinese Room

We are seeking an experienced, talented Game Director to join the team and help create the new generation of The Chinese Room (“TCR”) games. As a Game Director, you will join the leadership team and be the creative lead on one of our projects. Working alongside the Exec Producer and with our studio Creative Director, you will define and evangelise the creative vision of the game and set the direction of the team’s work to fulfil that vision. The role would be suitable for someone with a background as a Lead Game Designer and experience of and interest in relevant genres such as first-person games, narrative, action-adventure, RPG, horror. We have a beautiful new studio in Brighton and enable the flexibility to combine time in the studio with working from home.

The Project:

As a studio, we develop our own original games, as well as taking on select IPs. Current projects are first-person, action-adventure games for console and PC, and we’re looking for a world-class Game Director to join the team.

Within this role you will provide:
· CREATIVE DIRECTION ~ define the creative vision and directing work to fulfil that vision.
· LEADERSHIP ~ bring together the input and experience of other directors and team members to achieve ‘buy-in’ to your direction.
· COMMUNICATION ~ communicate the creative vision and status of the project to your team, studio leadership & other stakeholders.
· REVIEW ~ review & feedback on iterations of all elements of the game.
· KNOWLEDGE ~ broad knowledge in all areas of game production, particularly game design, and in the genre and market.
We are looking for someone with:

· Full cycle experience as a Lead Designer or Game Director on at least one shipped III/AA/AAA title.

· Coupling strong knowledge of game design with the ability to direct world-building and storytelling through art and sound.

· Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

· A thorough understanding of current gaming trends.

· Experience of story driven action-adventure games is strongly desirable.
