Game Director

As the games division of Bad Robot Productions (Lost, Cloverfield, Westworld, Star Wars, Star Trek), we at Bad Robot Games are on a mission to continually reinvent how stories are played.
We are a remote-first games company represented by a diverse team, which empowers us to make the kinds of games in which all players can see themselves. Working closely with our colleagues at Bad Robot Productions, our projects unite our extensive network of games, TV, and film industry talent to create original IPs, expansive worlds and tell new stories across all media platforms which are as fun to watch as they are to play.
Bad Robot Games is looking for a Game Director who is passionate about and skilled in game design, implementation, and leading cross-disciplinary game development teams. The Game Director will partner with the Chief Creative Officer and Design Director to set the overall vision and direction for a game. Our studio has a focus on storytelling, creativity, collaboration, and a commitment to quality.
Are you ready?
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct all aspects of game development, applying critical thinking and imagination to engineer exceptional player experience, quality, storytelling, genre resonance, and representation in the game
- Identify market opportunities and player needs, create a product pitch, and work with the team to greenlight the project
- Working with the Design Director, develop and maintain clear frameworks and rituals for quality measurement, feedback resolution, and game iteration
- Ensure key game pillars and features enable the strategic vision of the game
- Work closely with the Chief Creative Officer to craft and communicate a compelling vision
- Ensure that the game choices further the strategic vision for the game and are in keeping with our studio strategy and values
- Lead a multi-disciplinary development team
- Be the main point of communication for the game, clearly and compellingly represent the game to internal and external stakeholders
- Identify the needs and desires of players and evolve the game to provide an epic player experience
- Work with the producer to determine and monitor the production priorities, scope, team resource needs, and modifications
- Define the design methods appropriate to the project and communicate those with the team
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of game development experience
- 5+ years in a leadership role in internal game development
- 2+ AAA shipped titles, with at least one from concept to ship
- Deep understanding of games and multiple game genres
- Experience building, leading, and mentoring cross-disciplinary teams
- Competency in one or more coding languages (C++, C#)
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with leadership and conflict resolution skills

- It’s 2021; games are being made by developers spread across the world. Our HQ is located in Santa Monica, CA, but our team collaborates from all over.
