Game Designer, Systems
At Visual Concepts, we believe great games are made by diverse and empowered teams with a shared passion for play. As one of the world’s top game development studios, we have shipped over 100 multi-sku titles to critical acclaim and commercial success. Our teams are independent and entrepreneurial. Our studios in Agoura Hills, Novato, Orange County, Budapest, Shanghai, Austin, San Jose, Vancouver and Seoul are committed to artistry and technical innovation, offering top candidates the opportunity to learn and grow with some of the smartest and most creative minds in the industry.
What We Need:
When you play a game do you see the matrix? Can you deconstruct an experience into loot lists, percentage-to-hit, statistics and parameters? Can you build a nuanced experience with a set of logical arguments and if/then statements? Are you comfortable analyzing data in spreadsheets, creating flowcharts and easy-to-read wireframes of feature systems? If so, we are looking for you.
Our Agoura Hills studio is looking for a Systems Designer to specify and drive implementation of core features in the WWE2K franchise. As a System Designer you will be responsible for writing proposal specs, conceiving data-driven representations of game experiences, reviewing, implementing, and integrating feedback into designs, crafting wireframes, managing data tables and curating features through completion.
What You Will Do:
- Conceive, design, and lead implementation of amazing new features for our players
- Work with designers, producers, engineers and artists to create feature specs for use in developing implementation road maps
- Collaborate with engineers on parameter design and technical implementation to ensure resulting features are fun and responsive
- Build wireframes and flowcharts to visualize screen flow and user experience; collaborate with artists and animators to improve polish, clarity and impact
- Create, manage and tune data tables to adjust in-game balancing
- Advocate for players at all times, influencing decisions which make our systems easy to understand and use
- Resolve emergent issues, clarify underlying philosophies, and act as a resource for team members for all the features and systems you own
Who Will Be A Great Fit:
- Minimum two years’ experience as a game or system designer
- One or more shipped games with significant scope of design ownership
- Outstanding writing capabilities
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software – Excel, Google Sheets, etc.
- Wireframing/Flowcharting software experience – Visio, Photoshop, Balsamiq, etc.
- Attention to detail and completeness, ability to see around corners, anticipate issues
- Organized, excellent interpersonal skills, passion for games, collaborative demeanor
- Love for video games (not just ours!)
Preferred qualifications:
- Scripting experience – C#, LUA, Blueprint, etc.
- General experience with development software – Jira, perforce, bug tracking software, etc.
- Experience with 3D editors – Unity, Unreal, etc.
