Game Designer III, Progression - Unpublished R&D Product

As a Game Designer, you will design, tweak, and optimize the player experience. Your analytical skills, player insight, and creativity aid in crafting in- and out-of-game experiences that engage and surprise players. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and work with every tool at hand to innovate and iterate player-focused designs that'll delight millions around the world.
As a Game Designer III on the Research & Development team, you'll be the designer responsible for our progression and rewards systems. You'll partner with developers from multiple disciplines to ensure that our game encourages and rewards fun, healthy play patterns for years to come. You'll be an advocate for players of all backgrounds, and you'll work with an interdisciplinary team to create systems that delight millions. You have experience in metagame system designs and a passion for building engines of long-term engagement. As development expands, you'll also be involved in conversations around additional features and play experiences to ensure that they will properly reward players for their investment, from tutorials to content design and much more.
Responsibilities:
- Create and implement long-tail reward structures and model player behavior through simulation
- Take a holistic eye at all our progression and rewards systems to ensure balance across the play experience
- Apply a scientific approach to design - identify what is compelling, how that translates to other contexts, and articulate why it works
- Collaborate with the monetization team to balance rewards earned with rewards purchased to achieve a well rounded player investment strategy
- Openly document, share, and discuss work with other developers to foster a high trust and collaborative work environment
- Combine co-worker and player feedback to calibrate design direction
- Design systems tailored to the needs and expectations of the game community, as well as a broader audience.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience as a game designer
- Experience designing, or managing progression or rewards systems on an open world style RPG
- Have led significant portions of the progression or rewards design for at least one shipped game title
- Solid mathematical and technical writing skills
Desired Qualifications:
- A background in mathematics, business, or psychology
- Familiarity with social systems design
- Familiarity with monetization design
- Experience with mobile game development
- Experience working on a live-service game
- Experience working in Unity
