Game Designer II - League, Summoner's Rift

Game Designers at Riot craft the systems, mechanics, and content that make up a resonant player experience. We explore how to best push the boundaries of that experience to build new and engaging moments for players.

As a Designer on the League of Legends Summoner's Rift Team, every element of the experience of playing our premier game mode, Summoner's Rift, will be within your domain - from champion power levels, to item balance, to new content for Preseason. Additionally, you will help guide all stages of the game, from the new player tutorial to the metagame of top level professional play. We are looking for highly engaged players that understand the game from top to bottom and want to find every spot that can be improved.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the current state of the game continuously, and look for areas that need improvement
• Empathize with League of Legends players at all levels of skill
• Understand the professional metagame and keep the experience entertaining for viewers
• Oversee the balance state of champions, items, runes, and any other systemic component that affects the live game
• Maintain the game's existing systems, including larger scope projects that could last several patches to complete
• Improve existing design frameworks and create new ones
• Effectively lead and collaborate with non design disciplines to fully realize our design vision and ship it to players

Required Qualifications

• 3 years professional experience on competitive PvP systems, mechanics, or balance
• Successful delivery of features or updates in PvP games
• Experience with League of Legends gameplay at a high level
• Understand the effects of many complex and interconnected systems working together, and how small changes in tuning will be optimized, exploited, or resonate with players
• Experience communicating and expressing complex and nuanced designs in simple ways

Desired Qualifications

• Platinum+ rating in solo queue
• Deep knowledge of League of Legends professional metagame
• Experience with history of League of Legends, including design trends and metagame evolutions
• Experience with action game feel, player inputs, and ability visualization
• Experience working with MOBAs
