THE OPPORTUNITY
The Game Designer II is responsible for designing compelling game content, mechanics, and systems, and working with the Lord of the Rings Online team in the Design team at Standing Stone Games reporting to the Producer, this position will be responsible for:
- Design and implement high quality, compelling content and systems for a massively multiplayer game
- Drive design through all development phases, from concept to live operations
- Once live, design responses to performance indicators and customer feedback
- Collaborate closely with an internal team of world builders, artists, and game designers
- Communicate scope and vision effectively and efficiently
- Provide both high-level game design direction and hands-on design implementation
- Mentor other designers and employ your leadership skills by spearheading gameplay initiatives
- Help to drive the project schedule, including the roadmap and backlog
- Learn proprietary tools quickly and work within a complex asset development pipeline
What craft expertise you’ll have:
- Tools/Technology
- Required:
- Strong general computer skills (very comfortable in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Scripting/coding experience, such as Python, Perl, C# or similar languages
- Experience with version control software, such as Perforce
- Desired:

- College degree or equivalent work experience
- Desired:
- Experience with The Lord of the Rings Online
- A mature, professional attitude and work ethic; you need to be able to champion your ideas, yet accept and value the ideas of others
- Experience playing MMOs
- Familiarity with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien
- Experience with game systems design
Other Criteria
- Years of Experience, Education, and/or Certification
- Years of Experience: (Minimum) 5
- Required: 3+
- Additionally, you should possess
- Experiencing evaluating and/or designing monetization systems or mechanics
- Strong familiarity with game design principles, specifically MMOs and group content
- Strong understanding of numbers and mathematics as they relate to game balance
- An avid gamer, with experience in live service games
- Strong organizational skills: ability to keep track of minute details as well as the big picture while multitasking
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Strong documentation skills including design proposals and game design documents
- Proven ability to manage time, self-organize, and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated with the ability to creatively solve problems
