Game Artist (Generalist)

Working under general supervision, the Game Artist will work primarily with the art director, artists, and game producers on creating art for Kongregate game titles. Associates in the role will handle end-to-end art requirements for a game, from sketching out concepts and storyboards, developing art styles, to building and implementing game assets in engine. This person can adapt to different styles for different game titles. Occasionally, the Artist may be called upon to illustrate artwork for creative ads we use for user acquisition and marketing. This role interacts with a supervisor as often as needed by either.
Required: Portfolio with examples of related work; Multiple years of experience in the game industry
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Studio Art Director, game producers and other team members to create art for Kongregate's game titles
- Work with the Studio Art Director, art team, and Producers to define and develop an artistic style for games
- Create concept art and storyboards which help communicate the proposed visual elements during pre-production
- Create concept art, animations, particle effects, and UI for working titles
- Create production ready 3D art, models, textures and/or animations
- Technical ability and adaptability with team’s tools used for daily operations

Basic and Preferred Qualifications (Education and/or Experience)
- Accredited Associate degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design required, although a portfolio of work demonstrating a comparable level of education may be accepted in substitution; accredited Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
- At least 2 years of game industry experience required
- Have a portfolio demonstrating a range of work and originality of style
- Experience with Unity preferred

- Proficient illustration skills with the ability to adapt to various art styles.
- Proficient ability to draw from life and have knowledge of anatomy and architecture.
- Proficient knowledge of basic art principles, including lighting, shape, form, color, and perspective.
- Proficient understanding of multi-faceted art design roles
- Proficient ability to work with UI/UX
- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficient design ability
- Working knowledge of the production process and life-cycle
- Proficient ability to meet deadlines in a fast-changing environment
- Proficient knowledge of concept development, layout composition, color theory, typography, and basic drawing skills
- Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities
- Proficient ability to meet demanding, evolving and frequently overlapping deadlines
- Proficient ability to respond favorably to frequent feedback, including multiple and potentially conflicting revisions
- Proficient ability to complete design projects quickly, as needed, to ensure that the department's production objectives are achieved
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other design professionals, including the ability to respond favorably to creative differences of opinion and to handle stress in a manner acceptable to others
- Proficient knowledge of 3D Studio Max, Maya or equivalent 3D modeling package a plus
- Proficient knowledge of ZBrush or equivalent sculpting package a plus
