Full-time Faculty, Game Designer in Residence

Position: One year residency in MICA’s Game Lab and Game Design program. The Game Lab of the Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for this one year position with a non-renewable contract in a non-tenure institutionbeginning August, 2021.
Job Description:
This one-year creative residency is a unique opportunity to work closely with our students, research lab, and the larger MICA community over the course of the 2021-2022 academic year. During the residency, the designer is expected to complete a game or other play-based project and will teach 12 credits per year (2 courses per semester) . We are looking for a designer making compelling work in the field of games / play who wants to engage with students and gain teaching experience.
This year we are looking for applicants who can help support our 3D level classes, so the ideal candidate would have experience working with Unity’s 3D workflow, and creating assets using 3D authoring tools such as Blender or Maya.
The resident is expected to be an active member of the game, art, and design communities of the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Baltimore community at large. Applicants proposing projects which creatively engage our community will be given preference.

Requirements:
- An active professional practice which includes any of the following: game or play-related artistic work, commercial or indie game development, game-related asset production / technical art, game-related research / scholarship.
- Experience with Unity’s 3D workflow, creating 3D assets for games built in Unity with Blender (preferred) or Maya.
- An active interest in teaching, with preference given to those having prior games-related experience including college-level teaching, workshop leading, or tutorial production.
- Detailed project proposal(s) for game-related work to be completed over the course of the residency.
Additionally Valued:
- A diverse interest in games and play including video games, tabletop games, games as art, games for change, urban games, etc.
- Experience working with Shader Graph or VFX Graph in Unity.
- A history of working across disciplines with other artists, designers, and those outside of the field of game design.
- Experience working with nonprofits, government agencies, or companies on collaborative courses and projects.
- Experience that is informed by multiple worldviews; and approaches to theory that are inclusive of non-western cultures and practices.
Additional Information:
Salary is commensurate with experience and college policy, including an excellent benefits package. The College will review applications as received. The second PDF document should include a project proposal. This can be one year-long project, or two semester-long projects done during the residency.
