Financial Controller (6 month Fixed Term Contract)

Space Ape is one of the UK’s largest and most successful mobile gaming studios. Founded in 2012 and based in London, the 120 people strong studio represents 30 different nationalities and has won numerous awards including best places to work in 2019 and 2020. Space Ape has launched 4 games to players in over 150 countries and generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to date and has multiple exciting titles currently in soft launch. In 2017 Space Ape formed a strategic partnership with Supercell, one of the largest and most successful mobile gaming studios in the world.
We are currently seeking a Financial Controller to join our small but high performing team. The role reports directly into and works very closely with the CFO and covers core finance duties with a focus on accounting excellence and understanding of legal and HR spheres too. As a result, you will be responsible for a broad range of tasks and processes.
This role will suit an individual with a desire to take a hands-on approach to core finance tasks and is not afraid of getting into the numbers and details in handling the day to day and month end responsibilities.
We are offering this role for a 6 month period with a minimum notice period required of 4 weeks, and we are open to candidates who may require flexible working arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Own the month end close process and the general ledger (AP, AR, cash, fixed assets, cap dev).
- Oversee the processing of invoices and journals by our third-party outsourced bookkeepers. Execute weekly payment runs and manage all aspects of cash and bank, including FX.
- Assist with the delivery of monthly group reporting (P&L and Balance Sheet) to our parent company Supercell Oy.
- Complete HMRC compliance activities - Quarterly VAT, PAYE, P11Ds, and assist with Corporation Tax.
- Complete the monthly payroll and work with an outsourced professional services firm to deliver payslips and PAYE reporting.
- Own key supplier relationships including landlord, pension, BUPA, benefits, and insurance.
- Support business partners by generating and reviewing new contracts and renewals with third parties.
- Maintain our Netsuite accounting system.
- Must have the self-motivation and ability to work independently in a high growth environment.
Requirements
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in similar role highly desirable.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, and has a track record of adhering to timeframes, managing conflicting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Detail oriented and seeks efficiencies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft & Google software, and experience with Netsuite useful.
