External Affairs Advisor II

As External Affairs Manager you will report to the Rules & Compliance Manager EMEA and be part of the Competitive Operations team in Berlin. You will join a lean but impactful team of esports professionals to govern and operate one of the most sophisticated esports ecosystems in the world.
With over 50+ competition properties across our games (League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and more in the future), Riot operates extensive esports ecosystems in Europe. As External Affairs Manager you will be liaising with industry and government stakeholders to support the representation of Riot Esports in the territory. You’ll be coordinating with internal stakeholders to manage external affairs and serve Riot Esports EMEA as a spokesperson for regulator relations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Riot’s strategy for engagement with regulators in the area of esports for EMEA
- Maintain knowledge base and ensure internal stakeholders are up to date regarding any relevant developments in the regulatory space of esports
- Represent Riot Esports EMEA at conferences and as spokesperson in public- and industry-facing settings
- Represent Riot Esports EMEA in trade associations and other bodies that deal with regulatory affairs that we are members of
- Advance relationships with governments and regulators
- Liaise with the LEC and ERL teams to help drive the continued evolution of the rules and regulations of European League of Legends Esports
- Maintain close relationships with other esports industry stakeholders, such as publishers and tournament organizers
- With support of our internal communications and Competitive Operations team, draft internal and external communications
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Sports or Business Administration, or equivalent degree with relevance to the role
- 4+ years of experience in esports or sports league operations, governance, and/or politics
- Strong understanding of esports and sports industry, league and pro-team business
- Expert knowledge of European political landscape regarding sports and esports governance
- Experience or demonstrable understanding of EU and local policy making and parliamentary procedure
- Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills in English
- Available for extensive travels
Desired Qualifications:
- Additional languages beyond English are a bonus, but not required
- Experience as a lobbyist
- Government, political, or public relations postgraduate qualifications
