Expert Data Analyst - Positive Play (Apex Legends)
Founded in 2010 by the original creators of the Call of Duty Franchise, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when accomplished people have creative freedom, they'll make extraordinary games that achieve the unexpected. From our roots as an indie studio to joining the roster of studios at Electronic Arts, this remains our guiding principle. We love what we do and want to share our passion with players worldwide. Join us for the opportunity to create groundbreaking games with some of the best developer talents in the industry.
At EA and Respawn, we believe in the power of positive play. Being part of a gaming community is fun, fair, inclusive and safe for all. And that is the heart of the Positive Play Group. From partnering with game development teams to implement best practices; to building new features; to the player community guidelines we've developed, our team is dedicated to making a difference. All of our efforts are part of our commitment to build better, healthier communities inside, and outside, our games. Join us as we positively influence the future of play.
Our ideal team member will have the mathematical and statistical expertise needed to create deep insights from multiple data sources, paired with the natural curiosity and creative mind to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover opportunities. You will establish the analytics framework to empower EA and Respawn to deliver experiences that expand the positive power of play. You'll support both the data strategy and execution for our group, working across EA's teams of data scientists, researchers, product managers, and engineers to use current data and identify new data opportunities, using your own methods to "slice and dice" the data to create and support new visions for the future of the Positive Play Group in Apex and across EA.
Responsibilities:
- You will lead our efforts to understand how Apex Legends contributes to and detracts from Positive Play, identifying meaningful behavioral player segments and patterns to improve our understanding of cohesive, inspiring, and "connective" behaviors across all EA franchises and game genres.
- You will help drive understanding of the connection between positive play metrics and business metrics for the Apex franchise.
- You will develop and maintain a deep understanding of available cross-EA data and ensure ethical sourcing that honors EA's commitment to Player Privacy.
- You will identify relevant data sources and collect large structured and unstructured datasets to mine for insights into the player and game studios' needs, methodically designing and implementing analytical experiments to help solve player problems.
- You will tease out important insights to guide our investments by developing algorithms and models that consolidate and mine multiple large data stores.
- You will scrub the inputs and outputs to ensure accuracy and consistency, iteratively improving those algorithms and models to measure the results of applied recommendations.
- Using those insights, you will propose and validate hypotheses to direct our business and product road map while collaborating with Data Science and Engineering teams to improve our data ecosystem over time, including investments in the data and tools to grow our analytic capabilities.
- Develop insightful dashboards, memos & presentations that summarize the data, working with product managers, game developers, data scientists, and other partners to define success metrics for our products and services and democratize access to that information. Periodically, you will work with our our teams on ad hoc "deep dives" into target areas
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in related fields (Gaming, Technology etc)
- Powerful analytic skills with demonstrated experience blending relevant information across a broad ecosystem to diagnose problems and design creative solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis using tools like SQL, Tableau, Looker, R, Java/Python, and even Excel to perform complex functions.
- Familiar with contextualization and sentiment analysis tools like Spiketrap and with supporting Machine Learning approaches through developing high-quality data pipelines.
- Equally comfortable working in a dynamic, data and research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects and with supporting operationally-focused needs to measure program performance.
- Experience creating & delivering presentations that convey complex or nuanced analytic insights and information to senior leadership across Marketing, Product, and Engineering.
