Experienced Character Artist role:
The Experienced Character Artist is a new role dedicated to working on Rebellion games and with trusted industry partners on genre-defining IP.
This role will be committed to helping create high quality character models in their entirety whilst respecting as closely as possible the concept art. You will also create additional character assets and other props for the game.
As part of the Rebellion North art team, you will play a key role in ensuring the artistic quality of games. Your focus will be on the execution of your work and how this will influence and improve the project.
This role would suit someone with knowledge of 3D software such as Max Maya and blender as is able to translate concept and reference artwork into high quality character models.
The Art team at Rebellion North deliver multiple high-end projects with a focus on bringing our games characters to life with high quality character assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce high quality character models in their entirety respecting as closely as possible the concept art.
- Read game design documentation to become familiar with character list and understand their actions and psychological aspects in order to create credible characters for the story
- Create additional character assets such as hair, accessories, armour, weapons, etc
- Create Props and hard-surface elements for the purposes of the project
- Provide primary models to programmers so they can integrate them into the engine and test first gameplay intentions.
- Touch-up textures after engine integration to optimize quality
- Deliver clean and optimized low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts according to the project’s technical requirements
- Track and update the progress of day to day tasks using the designated tracking tools
- Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders to confirm task direction and consistency of own work
- Implement and incorporate feedback from Producer and Leads into work
- Bug-fix issues raised by tester
- Develop an understanding of project tools and their functions, the project file classification system and the process of updating engine data
- Apply best practices, production pipelines and workflows
- Support the Lead Character Artist in any ad hoc tasks and duties

Requirements
- Advance knowledge of 3d software such as 3D Studio Max, Maya and Blender
- Unreal experience would be preferable, however is not essential.
- Advance knowledge of 3D sculpting packages such as Zbrush or Mudbox
- Advance knowledge of Photoshop or Substance Painter
- Advance knowledge of PRB material pipeline/substance
- Advance understanding of anatomy and proportions
- Easily able to translate concept and reference artwork into high quality character models
- Advance knowledge of the video game development process
- Advance knowledge of production pipelines
- Experience using leading games engines to produce high quality art assets
- Able to focus individuals and teams to achieve a specific outcome to drive performance
- Able to apply an understanding of the games industry to improve effectiveness of teams and projects
- Able to focus on own professional development and able to mentor individuals to develop skills and knowledge
Please note, this is an onsite role and therefore remote working is not possible for this role. Candidates should only apply if they are available to be on site 100% of the time.
