Environment Concept Artist

VELA GAMES IS LOOKING FOR A HIGHLY MOTIVATED AND TALENTED ENVIRONMENT CONCEPT ARTIST TO HELP BRING TO LIFE OUR NEW WORLD, GENERATE IDEAS AND CRAFT DESIGNS THAT ARE RESONANT, COMPELLING AND ICONIC.

We're looking for someone who wants to be a part of the core foundation of Vela Games; someone who is passionate about being part of an early tight-knit team focused on creating innovative game experiences from the ground up. This person loves playing games as much as making them and understands how to deliver a look and feel that will excite as well as engage players.

As an Environment Concept Artist, you will help craft visually inspiring worlds and awesome gameplay environments. You will be a key member of the art team, creating engaging and memorable landscapes, structures, and props that will bring our game world to life.

Vela Games is located in Dublin, Ireland. This is a full-time, permanent position and applicants must live or plan to live within commuting distance to the studio. We offer competitive salaries, benefits, and company equity to all team members.

What you'll do:

• Help visualize fantastic locations in an original science-fantasy IP.
• Craft concepts for props, architecture, level related meshes, textures, and materials according to the best practices within an Unreal Engine development pipeline.

• Work closely with Art Director and Environment Artists to keep quality and style consistent across all Environments and Concepts.
• Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to design and layout gameplay spaces.
• Ensure landscapes, structures, and props are consistent with the visual style of the game.
• Iterate on game assets with production artists via prototyping and group feedback.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience creating concept artwork for games, film, or animation.
• An outstanding portfolio / demonstrated expertise in creating functional and stylized designs for environments and props.
• Ability to quickly iterate on an idea, as well as take an asset to a final state.
• Superior eye for light, value, color, and perspective and the ability to use them in creating new artwork.
• Strong understanding of real-time game development tools and processes.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with cross discipline teams.
• Deep passion for multiplayer games and player experience.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with Zbrush and/or other 3D modeling applications
• Personal or professional experience developing stylized environments and props
• Skill in one or more related disciplines – Character concept or Illustration
