Your mission
We are Vertigo Games, the largest VR developer in the world and part of the Embracer Group, the largest group of developers in the world. As our Amsterdam studio is in full production of its most ambitious project to date, a true multi-platform high-end VR action shooter based on a global franchise, and with plans to start the next project this year, we are looking to recruit an environment artist who can aid us in our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Closely co-operate with level designers in crafting a detailed world that follows the artistic direction and supports the gameplay.
- Create and integrate modular environment pieces, props and materials into the game engine, from functional block out to polish.
- Apply your understanding of composition, staging, and lighting to create immersive game environments that tell a story.
- Ensure that environment assets are built and implemented in a way that maximizes performance while maintaining visual quality.
- Follow the established production schedule and ensure that your environment assignments are delivered on time and meet the quality requirements.
- Plan and co-ordinate your work regularly with your team, communicating effectively to ensure transparency.
Your profile
- Console or PC game development experience in an agile team.
- Experience in building worlds in engine (Unreal Engine preferred). Including lighting, time of day, fog/skyboxes, palette control, and post process effects.
- Understanding of modularity and environment systems used in fast, iterative, and efficient production.
- Experience and understanding of content creation and optimization.
- Solid understanding of art fundamentals, e.g. the function of form, color, proportions, and shape.
- Understanding of modern materials and shaders with Maya/3DSMax/Blender, Zbrush, and Substance Designer/Painter.
- English on a proficient level.
Bonus points for
- Experience with mobile and/or VR development.
- Ability to create materials (Unreal, HLSL) and scripting (Unreal Blueprint, MEL, Python).
- Experience with 3rd party tools which can increase the quality and efficiency in how we build environments.
- Can create environmental VFX (e.g. shaders, particle systems).
- Experience with procedurally generated environment art
