Position Purpose
The Environment Artist will work closely with the Art Lead to support various projects on their environment design, modeling, and texturing needs within style ranges from cartoony to realistic in an efficient way for each platform.
Essential Job Functions
- Create environments for individual projects as needed
- Investigate and test optimal approaches for each platform that hit the highest quality
- Understand what the Art Lead requires for the project then research, develop and implement it in engine
- Research current techniques used and utilize most relevant processes
Required Qualifications

- At least 1-2 years experience in a similar role
- Understanding of Maya and/or Max
- Unity experience is required, Unreal a plus
- Ability to create environment textures within tools such as Photoshop/Substance Designer
- Ability to create or work off of environment concepts that are complete or incomplete.
- Ability to light a scene based on the design of mood and impact in the game
- Ability to come up with creative compromises to multiple suggestions
- Work with design to figure out level flow and how it pertains to environments
- Understanding of what will be design vs. art
- Works closely with technical art to develop new or improved techniques to enhance visual quality
- Ability to keep a clear and consistent schedule
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to provide accurate time estimates for project planning
- Works with other departments as needed
- Understanding of bug fixing and investigation
- Help the art team find answers to difficult problems.
- Plus: Ability to use Zbrush or Mudbox
- Plus: Ability to do FX.
- Plus: Ability to concept environments
Demonstrated Ability To
- Make strong visually impactful environments and pushing the envelope when needed
- Work in an organized and self-motivated way
- Work effectively with other artists and engineers to achieve project goals
- Solve problems to the benefit of the project/team
Education & Experience Required
Any degree or certification in Art or equivalent work experience.
Materials Required
Candidate should provide portfolio of art that they have created or directed and a resume detailing the projects/studios that they have been a part of. An art test may be required.
