Engineering Verification Manager, AR HMD OS

The Niantic Augmented Reality Head Mounted Display (AR HMD) team is on a mission to build the most immersive and entertaining outdoor AR experiences. Niantic is seeking an engineering leader to define and execute the verification strategies for the AR HMD. You will work with Product Management and Engineering leadership to understand key product requirements, develop the strategies to verify them and form the team and infrastructure to launch this new product. You will research industry methodologies and collaborate with internal and external partners to measure and achieve key metrics for real-time performance, power management, security and overall user experience.
Responsibilities
- Engineering managers at Niantic are still hands-on but spend the majority of their time focused on making their teams work better.
- Prioritize and plan the work of the team in close collaboration with your engineers, tech lead, product managers, technical program manager, and other teams across the organization.
- Mentor engineers on their day-to-day work and their career aspirations, conduct regular 1:1s for your reports, evaluate their performance and set measurable goals that help them grow in the work and move the team and company forward.
- Recruit and hire great talent for the team.
- Drive the development and execution of device test strategies and specifications. Work with your team to craft test methodologies, test cases, and test suites for device capabilities.
- Build and manage testing estimates, schedules, timelines, bug analytics/metrics, and mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with other Niantic QA teams to validate system operation and work together towards a successful product launch.
- Collaborate with the leadership team on engineering process improvements.
Qualifications
- A BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other equivalent technical degree or proven experience.
- 5+ years of experience shipping commercial consumer devices or applications and supporting them in production.
- Experience leading, building, and crafting test strategies and automation frameworks for devices and consumer-facing products.
- Proven understanding of QA methodology and tools with hands-on experience in implementing effective test automation strategies.
- Experience recruiting and building up a quality verification or validation team.
- Excellence in written and verbal communication of both technical and non-technical information to multiple levels of the organization.
- Ability to work both individually and collaboratively as part of a team.
Plus if
- Experience with AR games and devices.
- You have experience working with open computer vision and AR/VR standards (eg: OpenCV, OpenXR).
- You have shipped embedded devices based on Android and Linux such as phones, tablets or set top boxes.
