Engineering Program Manager (EPM), Electrical & Firmware
7 days ago
We’re seeking a highly skilled Engineering Program Manager (EPM) with expertise in electrical and firmware development to join our hardware devices team. This hybrid role requires a blend of technical proficiency and program management skills to support the conception, development, and mass production of innovative products. You'll work closely with the industry’s best hardware engineers, firmware engineers, industrial designers, and operations managers to deliver groundbreaking consumer products.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the key liaison between cross-functional PD/EE/FW engineering teams, operations, and manufacturing partners, ensuring smooth collaboration and execution.
- Own and manage electrical and firmware timelines based on engineering requirements, covering board spins, hardware testing, certification milestones and build releases.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of program EE BOMs, PCB design archives, and PCBA material flow..
- Drive SMT contract manufacturer and subvendor readiness for engineering builds, from prototyping through DVT, including supervision of architecture, schematic, layout and validation timelines.
- Ensure on-time, high-quality proto and validation builds by driving test jigs, personnel, equipment, and components.
- Develop and implement hardware testing and validation via firmware, leveraging protocols like I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, and USB buses.
- Use tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers to assist the EE team with electrical debugging and validation.
- Provide program updates through clear, data-driven slides and written communications, including visual aids for technical and executive audiences.
- Proactively identify technical and operational risks, mitigating issues before they impact program timelines or quality.
- Support cross-functional engineering teams with technical expertise, including design analysis, design for manufacturing (DFM), and 2D/PCB design reviews.
What’s Required:
- Demonstrated experience owning electrical/FW modules on mass market hardware programs, including architecture-to-ship processes for mass-market consumer products (>1M units/year).
- Familiarity with C/C++ firmware development, including risk assessment, resourcing requirements and typical timelines.
- Experience with PCB design tools such as Fusion 360 Electronics/Eagle or PADS, and manual or automated EE test jigs.
- Proven track record in supporting engineers with PCBA design, including schematic creation, component selection, layout, and DFM considerations.
- Familiarity with using electrical engineering tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers for hardware debugging and validation.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to articulate technical challenges and provide concise program updates.
- Comfort with program management tools, including Gantt charts, BOMs, and statistical analysis for risk assessment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (equivalent experience may substitute).
- Up to 25% international travel is required.
What’s Ideal:
- Leadership role on multiple shipped mass-market products (>1M units/year).
- Proficiency in quality tools such as statistical process control (SPC), Tableau, JMP, and Excel.
- Experience with designing and implementing manual/automated test rigs for electrical and firmware validation.
- Exposure to both startup and large-scale organizational environments.
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies (SLA, SLS, FDM) and interest in hardware prototyping.
- Passion for continuous learning and cross-functional team collaboration.
- Interest or experience in the gaming industry, particularly handheld devices.
- Advanced degree (MS) in Electrical Engineering or a related field is a plus.
This role is hybrid, requiring in-office presence at our Palo Alto hardware engineering office. Join us to contribute to cutting-edge consumer hardware that sets new standards in innovation and quality!
